pairing: kuruto ryuki x gn!reader

summary: ryuki and you end up trapped together and, believing that you'll never get out again, ryuki confesses to you!

“LET US OUT OF HERE–!!”

you were woken up by ryuki's yelling, not yet realizing the situation you were in. all you noticed is how dark it was. even as you opened your eyes, it didn't get brighter. and when you tried to stretch and sit up, your limbs soon made contact with the walls of the small room you were in.

“OPEN THE DOOR–!”

there was only a small ray of light shining from underneath what seemed to be the door. ryuki was banging against it and yelling. it took you a couple more seconds, before you realized what was going on: ryuki and you were trapped together!

“w-where are we…?”

you got back up on your feet and ryuki whipped around as soon as he heard your voice. he looked relieved when he saw you were awake. but it was hard to tell in the dark.

“i-i don't know…” he sighed, clearly unsettled by the situation. “when i woke up, we were both in here. tama isn't here either, nor do i have my phone on me! i think… someone kidnapped us!”

you tried to remain calm, but ryuki's words were rather concerning. there was no way for the two of you to reach anyone outside of this tiny room. the only way out was this door, which was locked tight. you were stuck in here…

“and… how long have you been trying to get the door open now?”

“i woke up a couple minutes before you. i haven't been at it for too long. but it doesn't look good…”

“then let me have a look!”

you carefully squeezed past ryuki, to get a better look at the door. but after a short inspection, you realized there was nothing you could do. the screws couldn't be loosened without any tools, the keyhole was one that could only be used from the outside and there wasn't any space underneath the door to squeeze anything through. the only way through that door was brute force.

“okay, we'll just… have to break it open–!”

you sounded rather enthusiastic. working at ABIS, you had always wanted to kick open a door. all the detectives in movies got to do that. surely, it couldn't be that hard. especially if ryuki and you worked together!

“alright… then let's try it–!”

ryuki and you threw yourself against the door. you kicked and punched the door, both at the same time, as well as one at a time. but in the end, you got to find out the hard way that it really was that hard. whatever the doors in detective movies were made of, this door was much sturdier!

“it's pointless… we're going to die in here…”

just minutes ago, you were so enthusiastic about opening that door. but now you were worn out and any motivation you had before had vanished. you had given up completely, as you sunk to the floor.

“well… it could be worse–!”

ryuki sunk down next to you, trying to cheer you up a little. and at the very least, you huffed amused.

“how could this be worse?”

“well… at least i'm with you, you know?”

a small smile hushed over your lips, as you turned towards ryuki.

“i'm glad i'm stuck with you too, ryuki~”

you gently bumped your shoulder against his. ryuki smiled too and the two of you sat in silence for another moment, before ryuki broke the silence.

“i-if i don't make it out of here–”

“woah, stop right there!”

you sat straight up and turned to ryuki. he awkwardly tried to avoid eye contact with you, as you put your hands on his shoulders.

“don't even think like that, okay?”

“n-no, that– it's not like that–! please, just listen to me, okay?”

you nodded reluctantly. ryuki took a deep breath, before he sat up too and looked you in the eyes.

“if i don't make it out of here, i know there's one thing i'd really regret not telling you. and– well, now seems to be the best time to tell you that… i love you!”

suddenly, you were happy there was barely any light in that small room. otherwise ryuki would've noticed the blush on your cheeks as he confessed to you.

“i love you too, ryuki~” you whispered softly. “i kind of wish i could've said it somewhere more romantic though…”

the two of you chuckled softly, before ryuki began to lean in, a hand caressing your cheek.

“w-well… if you close your eyes, you can imagine a more romantic place…!”

he was trying to be smooth, to make up an excuse to kiss you. but it worked and you closed your eyes, before slowly leaning in, until your lips met. it was a soft kiss at first, but one filled with much passion. it felt like this could not only be your first kiss, but last one too.

but then, out of nowhere, the door to your small room swung open, not only interrupting your kiss, but blinding you with the sudden light, after such a long time in the dark.

“ooh, look who's making out there! boss, come see this–!”

“idiot, you should've waited before opening the door! the plan wasn't to interrupt their confession–!”

it was too bright to see who was talking, but ryuki and you soon recognized those voices. and perhaps knowing who they were only made you angrier.

“MISTER DATE–!?”

“MIZUKI–!?”

ryuki and you cried out in unison. your ‘kidnappers’ were none other than your friends and colleagues. and as you began to get used to the light and saw them standing there, you spotted boss along them.

“w-what the hell are you three doing here!?”

ryuki and you quickly got up on your feet, leaving that tiny room, only to realize you had been within ABIS headquarters all along. and as you looked back on the room, the words ‘janitor's closet’ were written on the door.

“oh, we just happened to come by when you were locked in this room and decided to free you~!”

date tried to act all innocent, but after receiving a smack on the back of his head from you, he whined, before giving a proper response.

“ouch–! fine, we locked you in here! but it was all mizuki's idea–!”

“you were the one who locked them in here–! i just said that we should do something to help them get together! i couldn't stand to see them being all awkward around each other anymore…”

mizuki and date began to bicker, pointing fingers at each other and raising their voices. hearing pieces of their conversation, you slowly began to piece everything together.

date, mizuki and boss had locked you in here, after being fed up by the two of you not acting on your crush on each other. hoping that you'd confess in a life or death situation, they faked one together. and their stupid plan seems to have worked on you…
