“Probably not... his house with Elliott’s pretty big.... what are you trying to say?” he asked

“That you can have it, if you want. I was originally just going to leave it for whichever kid wanted it when I pass but if you’d prefer to have it now then...” he trailed off, looking at the bed “This is pretty much all I have left from the house”

“Damn.... But... are you sure? I mean...” he frowned, then realized he said ‘when I pass’. “Wait what? Dad you’re only what... sixty....?”

“Sixty three but I have cancer, Levi” he said calmly before turning back to his son and sighing, not wanting to have had to tell him that and the look on Levi’s face was pretty painful to see

“What...? Cancer? But....” he stared at him “Is that why you’re here?”

“Yes. Kaden too. He’s across the hall.... but not because of cancer”

Levi inhaled deeply and sat down in the chair across from his dad “Okay yes I fucked up but I’m here now. Okay?” he said quietly “I.... I can’t believe you lost the house” he said quietly “What... about Jace’s....?”

“Moved. To my fathers house with my mother and sister... and now him. That house is completely paid for and I have a deed to it I just...” he shook his head “I offered it to Alex but she didn’t want it, said she and Gemma and Jez are happy where they are right on the beach” he explained, glancing over at the wall of pictures “And I know Logan wouldn’t want it...”

A very depressing, emotional week had passed since Aizen was released from the hospital before they had prepared themselves for Jace’s funeral. None of them wanted to do it, it set in stone that he was truly gone and they’d never get their baby boy back. Kade had begun smoking again which wasn’t a big surprise since it was on and off whenever he was stressed anyway, but he’d also begun drinking which was a little bit... different, he drank before sure but not to the extent he did now and it was starting to concern Aizen a little bit who was also not doing good, he was losing weight and wasn’t eating great even though he still made dinner everynight for the kids and he was being threatened of being fired from his job as well for missing so much, apparently chefs aren’t allowed to mourn their infants which pissed Kade off beyond belief, he even got in a physical altercation with Aizen’s coworker who made a snarky comment about it the last time he was there picking him up which involved shoving the coworker against a stove that was still hot causing him to burn his arm and hand pretty badly.

“Kade come on stop smoking!” Aizen called as he looked at his husband on the porch, shaking his head at him in judgement while Kade just flipped him off though didn’t really mean anything by it

When he knew Kade was in the bath, Aizen took the opportunity to go sit in Jace’s room and just drown in his feelings, though he had no idea the reality would hit him as hard as it did. It was the first time he’d stepped foot in the nursery since they’d lost him and it suddenly all felt very real. The room they’d fantasized about bringing their last little boy home too in just a few short weeks was now forever empty. Aizen felt empty, just like the room so he felt this was a good place to stay for awhile, looking around at the things in it before his eyes rested on his name letters on the shelf that Alex had helped choose the colors for. “Be brave little man...” he whispered before letting himself be swept away by the tears

Something else that had happened was that Aizen found out he was pregnant and chose to tell Kade on Alex’s birthday which in hindsight probably was not the best idea.

“So... Kaden, you know how I’ve been feeling kinda sick and was gonna call in to work?”

“Yeah....?”

“Turns out I’m pregnant” he said excitedly, neither of them were over Jace’s death and probably never would be but he hoped maybe this baby could be a happy thing, or at the very least a distraction but Kade seemed less than enthused

“Oh.... Oh. Uhm, O-Okay” he said awkwardly, unsure how to react because he wasn’t necessarily happy and more... surprised, by the news than anything

“Aren’t you happy?”

“I don’t know... I’m hungry, and I have to clean and go do my hair quickly”

“Fine asshole” he muttered

“Aiz- Fine.” he grumbled, not in the mood for this because he was already stressed enough about Alex starting high school and knowing that there would be people’s parents who knew about him, he had quite the reputation and he was seriously worried it would affect Alex’s friendships and possibly even her grades because of teachers being assholes.

“Alex come on!” He called out the door as the kids played basketball

By the time the doctor arrived the nurse had already gotten Aizen prepped for delivery because he was bleeding a lot and the baby’s heart rate was fluctuating wildly

“It’s go time, alright, Aizen, you push when you feel like you need to but we have to get this baby out” he said sternly, more concerned about Aizen dying of blood loss though

“F-Fuck- Ow-”

“Doc he can’t- Just get him out!”

Minutes felt like hours as Roman worked on getting Jace out but suddenly his heart rate started decreasing rapidly “Shit shit shit- Aizen- I...” he looked up as he could see Aizen going pale from blood loss and looked like he was about to pass out

“We’re losing him” The nurse said to Kade but not referring to Aizen who’d just passed out

“We have to get the baby out or Aizen’s going to die, your son is-”

But Kade already knew, he heard the monitor beeping like crazy “I know. Just... save Aizen” he said breathlessly, he felt dizzy and like he was going to faint because his whole world just flipped in a matter of minutes. The doctor continued working until he got him out and the nurse quickly took him and left the room immediately after, not even giving Kade a chance to see his son but the look the doctor gave him confirmed his worst feels, they’d lost him.

 Roman worked for about 40 more minutes getting Aizen stabilized before transferring him to another room “I’m sorry” was all he could think of to say to Kade at the time who just looked to be in shock

Kade called Bradlee immediately after he got Aizen situated downstairs to come watch the kids and he happily obliged, even brought Gemma so Alex wasn’t so worried and also called their doctor, Roman, to explain the situation who did agree they should come in and at least get it checked out. Once they got there Aizen still wasn’t dressed because he was in too much pain and all the shirts felt uncomfortable while Kade just threw on a hoodie quick and his shoes.

The doctor came in and pulled up a stool to speak with the two more in depth about what was going on and what Aizen was experiencing while also monitoring the babies heart rate which seemed okay, it was spiking and dropping every now and then but nothing overly concerning.

“So what happened exactly? You were just... walking and all of a sudden were in pain or were you feeling kinda weird all day?”

“I got sick a few days ago but other than that I’ve felt pretty normal, at least for this pregnancy I’ve felt ‘normal’... fuck-” he groaned as he got another contraction and while Aizen didn’t notice, Kade did notice the doctors concerned expression when Jace’s heart rate dropped during the contraction and went back up after it was over

“Okay... well, let’s get you on some pain medication and I’ll check you afterwards, your results for the urine test came back that you aren’t dehydrated at all so that’s good, I guess little man just wants to come out now, but we’ll see in a moment” Roman said as he got up and left the room, Kade switched sides and held Aizen’s hand tightly

“it’s gonna be okay babe” he said quietly, squeezing it lightly as the two remained somewhat calm other than Aizen’s intense pain every 4-5 minutes
