Jumping Off A Bridge
My bucket list is loaded down with a beautiful mixture of crazy and stupid ideas.(Wouldn’t life be boring without a bit both?) Along side donating my hair to the Wigs for Kids foundation you can also find: see the northern lights, be apart of a flash mob, and the one I finally crossed off bungy jump! I figured while I’m going “balls to the wall” and traveling alone why not kick it up to 11 and jump off a bridge while I was at it? While in Auckland, NZ I booked an evening jump with the A.J. Hackett Company to bungy jump off the Auckland Bridge. I got picked up in the city and driven to the jump HQ where they gave me a pair of shoes to borrow and fitted me into my harness. After I was weighed I was taken to meet my group. After a quick run down on the safety it was time to climb the bridge. It took a fair amount of time to reach the “jump pod” where our guides blared some solid EDM that surprisingly calmed my nerves. I was last to go and when I reached the end of the platform feeling I wasn’t scared. I didn’t want to back out. I just wanted to jump.
“Ready?” It was a stupid question to ask me. I was so ready! I nodded and he started counting down 3.....2.....1. Not a moments hesitation I jumped as hard as I could, perfecting my swan dive.
And just like that I was falling; like actually falling. It was a strange feeling that I had never felt before. So weightless and free.
It was a 40m (131ft.) free fall till I reached the end of my line. I stretched myself along with my line. Just let me touch the sea, I thought.
Success!!! I grazed the Tasman Sea completely forgetting about the cut on my finger from the day before. The line pulls me back up with a smooth recoil and I bounce a full 3 times before releasing my feet. That was about when I started to giggle like a maniac.
Once my feet were free I was pulled back up to the pod and had a good laugh with a kind Australian couple who was in the group. Over all this was an amazing experience and I would recommend this to any adrenaline junkie. So glad I finally got to mark this one of my list.
