Things I learned about my folk (Akan/Asante) today. Y'all ever wondered why do many Ghanaian people have the last name Mensah? It's cause it's what you call your third child. Three in twi is Miensa. So basically you'll have the name of the day you were born plus which sibling you were. Let's say you're a kwadwo so born on Wednesday and the third child so your name would be Kwadwo Mensah. If you were second Kwadwo Manu(2 is Mienu). Or maybe you're a woman, the fifth child and Friday born. Then you'd be Efia(h) Num (5 is Ennum).
