Lightning in a Bottle (ShiSaku)

It's time for a new ShiSaku fic! This one was written as part of the ShiSaku Rodeo server's Lunar New Year Exchange event. My giftee is the wonderful @sonorous-cicada who requested Akatsuki!Shisui, and I am SO EXCITED to have the chance to dive into that AU. This fic is going to have a few chapters, so keep an eye on this post if you want to follow the updates as I post them.

Summary: For ten years, Shisui has waited for Itachi’s little brother to grow strong enough to face the wicked truth about the genocide of their clan and the man who orchestrated it all. But ten years is a long time for resentment to fester untreated, and when the time is finally ripe for retribution, it isn’t his kin to whom he can turn for help.

Hanging all my hopes on a girl with pink hair and a lazy name, he thinks, wondering yet again how he’s managed to live this long.

But every once in a while, determination surpasses mediocrity and maidens topple monsters. When you manage to catch lightning in a bottle, thunder is never far behind.

Ok ok listen:

Akatsuki!Shisui but it's because he was able to run away from Danzō and Danzō painted him as a traitor who attacked a village Elder trying to gain control in the name of the Uchiha clan and used Shisui's stolen Mangekyō to get others to believe him unquestionably

Tobi finds Shisui as he's running away and asks him to join the Akatsuki, which Shisui does but only for the possible benefits of it and not because he believes in their idea of peace, he actually finds it quite terrible and disgusting the way they're going about this

Of course he gets placed as Kisame's partner and they become boyfriends because I'm a sucker for their potential together

Shisui: I didn't betray my village, I was betrayed by someone I trusted and then painted as the traitor!

Kisame: Oh I like you little guy. Let me kill this Shimura guy for you

Shisui: Wha- no! Besides, it's my job to-

Kisame: I see you misunderstood me. I wasn't asking for your permission. I will kill this Shimura guy for you

Itachi: We can't mansplain manipulate manwhore our way out of this one, Shisui.

Shisui: Manslaughter it is, then.

Itachi and Shisui together in Akatsuki be like

Shisui, looking at his own wanted poster: Kinda gay to make a wanted poster… why do you want that man? So you can hold him?

Itachi: Yeah, hold him accountable.

Shisui: Hold him accountable for stealing your heart?

I know I made that silly, funny incorrect quote post about Shisui being in Akatsuki with Itachi and being a comedic duo together (mainly Shisui being Shisui and Itachi being a tired boi™️), but let's not forget about how terribly depressing it would for Shisui to watch as Itachi slowly withers away because of his illness and he can't do anything to make it better

About how terrible it would be to know that no matter what, Itachi wants to die by Sasuke's hand. That Shisui, in Itachi's eyes, is not worth surviving for even if Shisui himself had decided not to die and continue living because Itachi begged him not to kill himself that night on top of the cliff

About how no matter how much Shisui wants to hate Sasuke for what he did, he can't bring himself to because Sasuke didn't know any better. Because he did exactly what Itachi wanted him to and it's not his fault, but Itachi's.

And Itachi asked him to take care of Sasuke, before he left for their final fight, and Shisui can't bring himself to go back on his word, no matter how much it hurts to look at his little cousin now that Itachi's dead and his eyes are in his skull

I can't stop thinking of Akatsuki Shisui help

Shisui just up and leaving. It all starts when he finds 'Madara' lurking around the village, and when he finds out that he wants to attack the village he tries to attack him at first, and then makes a deal with him when that doesn't work

The safety of the village, for Shisui's power at his disposal

There's someone to recruit? No worries, Kotoamatsukami will take care of that and you won't even need to fear for a betrayal

Someone to kill? Shisui's your man, with his Shunshin and his Genjutsus he can slide in someone's house undetected and leave without leaving any trace except for a cooling corpse

And when Shisui can't take it anymore of this 'second life', he decides to leave the village, but he wants to do it in a way that will inevitably brand him as a missing-nin, so he asks Madara's help in exchange for Shisui joining his organization

And they kill Danzō together (oops, what a pity, the bastard's dead, no one will miss him) and then Shisui, alone, tries to kill the Hokage but willingly failing, so that he'll be branded as a traitor

And before fleeing the village, he sneaks in Naruto's crappy apartment and takes him away. What does he care? He can use the Mangekyō to convince the boy that Shisui is his precious big brother, and the Kyuubi Jinchuuriki will now fight to protect him if he needs him to

(But Shisui is also carefully working against Madara, because Madara doesn't know it, but the people he recruits aren't loyal to him but to Shisui. And they'll see how it'll end, for now he'll just play the game)
