Here is Kae’s story. I can’t summarize to save my life. Don’t worry, I have a AU where both her and Shisui don’t die :}
➵ Kae’s Lore ⁀➴
6,583 words
➵ Before Her Birth, Cold War before Classic ⁀➴
Before Kae’s birth, the Cloud village and the Leaf village were not on good terms. Her parents met when her father Arashi visited the Leaf as part of a small secret spy infiltration ordered by the Third Raikage A. Arashi was a very skilled Cloud shinobi, specializing in Lightning. He got sidetracked, wandered off and met Mayumi Miyano and her clan, they were doing an annual clan tradition, lighting lanterns and putting them on the river. He was also impressed by her clan and their natural connection with archery.
For the moment that Arashi was in the Leaf, he and Mayumi quickly became smitten with each other, forming a bond so strong that it was beyond love. They kept in touch by letters sent by birds when Arashi left to head back to Kumogakure, their love only grew.
Soon they lost touch and a year later they ran I to each other unexpectedly on a supply run and decided to be official. Arashi got the Miyano clan’s blessing and brought her back to Kumogakure by using a hidden passage he had found. Konoha Ninja’s were not allowed in Kumogakure, what Arashi did was punishable.
➵ Her Birth ⁀➴
Mayumi fell pregnant not long after she was hidden, both were 19 and beyond excited, but Arashi knew he couldn’t keep her a secret forever. Kae was born during a dangerous thunder storm, one of the worst the land had seen, her birth had complications and Mayumi died shortly after Kae was born, Arashi was distraught. The love they shared was too strong and Arashi went into a state of psychosis.
He bundled up Kae and Mayumi’s body and fled his house in the middle of the storm, soon being caught by officials. Arashi managed to escape but completely ignored the fact his newborn daughter got struck by lighting. She didn’t die, but she did end up with a strand of her hair being white. She later believes that she survived because of her mother’s spirit, her father just assumes it could’ve been her chakra.
Exiling himself from the Cloud, being seen as an outsider by the Raikage, Arashi fled to the Leaf and delivered Mayumi’s body to her clan. Her death was a tragedy, but new life triumphed over the lose, Arashi and Kae were welcomed in with open arms, but he rejected their offer and left without a reason.
➵ Early life (Pre-Classic Naruto) ⁀➴
Arashi never emotionally recovered from Mayumi’s death, he sank into a disabling depression, almost in a catatonic state which mainly left Kae to fend for herself. He did feed her, but she had to do everything else herself, including training. This semi-abandonment allowed Kae to grow into a strong survivalist and very perceptive of her surroundings at all times, but it left her in fear of being abandoned and feeling lonely.
When Kae was at the age to train, the Miyano clan seeked out Arashi to train her. He just shrugged with a nod, not completely there and the clan knew it. Kae was soon trained in Kyūdō from an early age, quickly gaining her bond and affinity with archery. Even at a young age Kae shined with possibilities, looking to be a archery prodigy even before 10, this only furthered when she soon revealed her almost connected nature with Lightning Release, as if lightning was in her blood. Her natural talent bloomed as she aged, being blessed by her late-mother’s skill with a bow and arrow and her father’s elemental releases.
When her Lightning Release showed itself during a quick archery practice during a thunderstorm, Kae discarded her normal arrows for lightning ones, touching them without getting shocked, as if she wasn’t affected at all. Lightning Release wasn’t common in the Leaf, and her primary teacher Aneko Miyano knew exactly where Kae got it: through Arashi. She developed Wind not long after as well as Water Release during rain, using wind to help her attacks reach longer distances during combat as well as speed, boosting her small size.
Kae developed her Kenketsu (Blood Gift) : Tempest Release, not long after her father was murdered. Tempest Release allows Kae to semi-control storms, Storm Release only allows the user to control lightning like water.
She got her first scar at 7 when two arrows bounced back at her and shot around her lips, leaving two permanent white lines. It was obvious that Kae was the runt, most likely due to her lack of a balanced meal due to her father, but that didn’t stop her despite the odds being against her. When she wasn’t training, she was either found feeding local fox when she wasn’t supposed to, or wandering around near the Uchiha village, always being seen with a boy named Shisui Uchiha.
Shisui ran into Kae when she was trying to convince a food truck owner to give her food for free. He noticed how small the was and how she looked starved. Being the kind boy he was, he bought her some food after she was turned away. She cried when he gave her the food, both of them chatted for a while and that’s how their friendship began.
Kae was independent from a young age, never needing someone watching her, she was good with directions and always found her way back home. Shisui only followed her because there was something about Kae that screamed for him to watch over her despite her protests, their shared down-to-earth personality and want to protect others brought them closer.
Her most important moment with Shisui Uchiha was when Kae was 8 and Shisui was 10. Shisui had been passing his exams with flying colors, Kae had just started and was already struggling to keep up. One thing Kae loved about Shisui, even when they were young, was his determination and desire to achieve what he thought was right. What Kae always had on her mind was peace, people being friends with each other, and doing exactly what Shisui did, she was determined to stop a heated conflict between two ninja older than her.
Kae spotted two eleven-year-old ninja’s having a heated argument over something, and she wanted to be the peacemaker and approached, believing it to be a semi-easy fix. She tried to see what the problem was and they quickly turned their frustration onto her. She was shoved before cornered and belittled for her size and weakness, which made her fight back and defend herself the best she could. She created a flimsy lightning arrow and shocked one of them. This only increased their anger. Horrible insults about her possible connection to the Cloud were thrown at her, she was pushed down hard and was too small and weak to fight back.
That’s when two things happened: One, a massive storm suddenly started, and Two, Shisui Uchiha was on scene in a flash of lightning. Shisui quickly defended Kae and scared off the bullies as rain pelted down, seeming to soften after the issues were out of sight.
Shisui crouched down and wrapped his Uchiha jacket around her, something that made her cheeks red as she wiped a few tears away. Shisui applauded her determination, and liked how she stood for what she knew was right, but that she shouldn’t do that again and that she could’ve gotten super hurt.
She reminded him of the accident that happened a year earlier, when they were play fighting and Kae accidentally got her cheek cut by his kunai. She stated how “I didn’t even cry, that should show how strong I was.” Shisui covered his face in embarrassment because he still feels awful for that accident, but Kae just laughed as they walked back to shelter.
From that day forward Kae strived for peace between everyone, and wanted to be as strong as Shisui was so she could fulfill her dream. She wouldn’t let her Cloud-Leaf heritage make her stumble.
➵ Time At The Academy, Bond With Shisui ⁀➴
With the permission from her cousin/teacher Aneko Miyano, Kae was accepted into the academy at 6, her academy years are when she meets many people who will be forever important to her. She grew to know Kurenai Yuhi, soon seeing her a the mother figure she never had, Kurenai just had a very motherly feeling to her. That’s how Kae saw it.
She was part of team Naoya, led by Naoya Uchiha and her teammates were Shisui Uchiha and Arata Kurakawa. The team was regarded as diligent and respectful, three very talented young ninja and kunoichi, all three being members of prominent clans in Konoha. Despite Kae being the weakest, she gave it her all every time, earning the respect of Arata since she already had Shisui’s.
Shisui awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan during a tragic encounter when Kae was excused for an important Kyūdō trial when she was six. She had to attend the funeral of Arata Kurakawa not long after, and both Kae and Shisui were sent to different teams after Naoya disbanded the team after the tragedy. Kae and Shisui still hung out, she was his emotional support during the aftermath since it was traumatic and Shisui had survivors guilt, and their bond grew stronger.
Kae managed to pass her Chūnin exams, barely. Her speed and acrobatics saved her, wearing out her opponent so she could finish them off. Her unique way of fighting, applying both acrobatics and archery together, a never before seen combo, caught the eye of the Third Hokage. Hiruzen watched her closely and was intrigued by her affinity with her bow and lightning release, the connection was extraordinary.
Hiruzen knew Kae was destined for big things.
Kae was so excited when she was told about the offer to join the ANBU by the Hokage himself, she ran home and told her dad, who just sat in a chair. She begged him to say something but he just looked at her, his yellow eyes blank. His lack of anything hurt Kae deeply, worsening her relationship and hope of her father ever recovering.
➵ Her Relationship With Shisui Uchiha :> ⁀➴
Joining the ANBU at ten, Kae and Shisui always partnered up for less deadly missions, but when they were apart by age-based missions, Kae had simple ones like watching over suspected enemies from the shadows, but not allowed to eliminate until she was a bit older. She had strong qualities: silent, skilled, able to carry out a mission (sometimes).
When they removed their ANBU masks, Kae would hang around with Shisui when he was mentoring Itachi, who was a year younger than her. The three became inseparable, bonds as strong as iron, unbreakable. Kae befriends Itachi early on, and she becomes like an older sister to him, kind of. The Uchiha Clan was kind of like her second family, and she was always welcomed.
Shisui wasn’t surprised when one day Kae asked if he could help her with some things, primarily help with her Wind Release, and maybe speed enhancement which she really didn’t need, she was already the fastest ANBU. She did say she wanted to become as strong as he was, but he wanted her to chase after her own goals, not turn into him, definitely not that.
Shisui knew about Kae’s father Arashi, his neglectful and vegetative state, and how Kae had taken care of herself. Kae told him herself. During the moments when they were together alone, she showed him her most vulnerable side. Shisui thought she was already pretty strong, yeah she could maybe sharpen her releases and long-range attack. But she didn’t need that much help.
He always admired her for her speed, how she uses it to her advantage and showing him that strength isn’t everything. Kae loved all the cool things Shisui knew how to do, especially his Body Flicker technique, she helped him with his Lightning Release even after he said he was “fine” many times.
Kae knew that if she wanted to one day achieve peace between the Cloud and Leaf, she needed to be stronger, and she saw that Shisui was the only way to reach that goal. She wanted some tips on her Wind Release and maybe some help with her water. Kae knew that her request would maybe stain Shisui’s Uchiha Prodigy reputation with him helping a “Cloud blood,” but she wasn’t asking for that much.
She asked Shisui one afternoon, when he had just finished helping Itachi with something. She wasn’t immediately turned away, but he did ask way specifically since he was super busy with his own issues. She explained how he inspired her to keep working toward her dream, and just wanted some help. He knew that outside of her archery, she didn’t really have anyone to help her with her releases, since her father was a vegetable and her mother was dead. He vowed to help her (a silent vow to himself to keep protecting her), and she cried, a happy cry. Shisui understood what she was going through, his own father was injured and is ill, he at least had a mother and teachers, Kae didn’t outside of archery.
During the time they spent together training, Shisui introduced her to her Water Release and how to control her Wind. She picked up on some of his speed techniques, and turned it into ways to launch herself around like a bullet. Their friendship grew stronger, no longer something as silly as childhood friends or best friends, something stronger. They had their silly rivalries, mainly ending in Shisui beating Kae in almost every way, but she always managed to land a few hits, something personal was growing.
Shisui was her person, the one who understood her when she rambled and when she needed someone to talk too. Shisui and Itachi knew they could rely on Kae, and the three formed a pact: if something were to happen to one of them, they’d tell the others everything.
➵ Her Experience With Death ⁀➴
In her teenage years, she became more involved with the ANBU, helping Shisui when he asked, and mainly helped in tracking down traitors and rescue missions. She avoided direct killings since it was kind of against what she stood for, Shisui and Itachi respected her decision and view. Outside of her ANBU duties, she regularly helped stop small fights, helping people talk it out.
Her relationship with Shisui deepened, going from “regular” training sessions to little nights out, away from their duties as ANBU. They kept their meetings secret since it was not in the ANBU to date, and Kae didn’t want to ruin his reputation once again with her status.
Arashi slowly snapped out of his catatonic depression, but it was already way too late. He had screwed up his daughter’s life, and Kae never truly forgave him for that. His psychological problems left a long lasting mark on Kae, leaving her with abandonment issues, Kurenai was her mother figure, who helped her in times of need, as well as Shisui.
Arashi tells Kae about Kumokagure and what it’s like, how he hopes maybe one day they both could go back for a visit now that he may be forgiven. Kae couldn’t feel ashamed of her Cloud blood, it was her heritage and she didn’t despise the Cloud despite what some Leaf ninja said occasionally. Arashi apologized for making her life a living nightmare, how he should’ve been protecting her, Kae expresses her frustration and anger, but ultimately forgives her father.
Arashi tells her she does have some family in the Cloud village (Karui, distant tho.) Arashi describes Mayumi and everything he loved about her, very slowly a small bond was forming between the father and daughter, and it made Kae wish she could’ve met her mother. Arashi believes that her getting struck by lightning and living powered her Lightning release more than a normal ninja’s, how she had a higher affinity with the element and her Cloud heritage.
On one spring day, Kae attended an ANBU meeting set up by Danzo Shimura, discussing future plans and possibly spying on Kumokagure, he believed they were planning something big (it was paranoia) Kae, upset about the already bad relationship between the Cloud and Leaf, began to question Danzo in front of everyone, including Shisui.
She used the fact and named all of her fellow teammates, ANBU members that gave their lives to keep Konoha safe from intruders, and the past shinobi that gave their lives to stop wars. Danzo was just setting up another war between the Cloud and Leaf, which meant more would die when they didn’t have too.
Some of the others at the table nodded, she did make a point. She made Danzo look bad, accusing him of wanting to start a war and using the ninjas and kinochi’s as disposable, this infuriated Danzo, but Shisui managed to move things in a different direction.
Danzo was seething with rage when the meeting ended, and began to plan something to set Kae straight, show her what he is capable of. The last few weeks Shisui had noticed that Kae had been talking about some kind of Spring Festival, she was so excited and he found it cute. So, he did his research and decided to make it a little surprise date.
That night Shisui took Kae on a surprise date to the Festival the Leaf was having, knowing how much she adored the season, especially Sakura flowers. Kae got all dressed up in one of her mother’s old yukatas and also wore her clan kanzashi in her hair, her clan was brought to tears at the resemblance of late-mother and daughter. Both also wore their ANBU fox masks in case they needed to protect their identity’s.
The two embraced their teenage title and shed their ANBU personas and actually did what normal kids their age did. They ate, watched as Sakura petals rained down from the giant tree, and sat together by a pond during the fireworks. Kae expressed her appreciation and love of the kindness Shisui had shown her throughout their friendship, allowing her to hang out with him and his clan, and everything that he sacrificed to help her. But apologized if she was ever a burden or unwanted.
Shisui frowned and lifted her chin, showing his perfect teeth. He didn’t want her to ever say that or think that she was ever a burden or unwanted around him. To him, she was perfect, always was and always will be. He confessed, “I would choose you in every life, no matter who I meet, I will search for you until the end. Even if I die in this life, we will reunite in no matter how long it takes.”
The fireworks shined in Kae’s eyes as both leaned closer to each other, sharing a very tender moment before kissing, their first kiss :} No one was around, or paid any attention to them.
Shisui offered to escort Kae back home but she politely refused, knowing the way back and not wanting to waste his time. Kae was met by an unwelcome visitor at her home, Danzo. She was easily incapacitated due to the fear of seeing Danzo before he heavily injured her with his cane. Kae pleaded when Arashi was brought out by his hair, taking one last look at his daughter before being savagely beat to death by Danzo. Kae couldn’t do anything but watch as her own father, who she had just began to have an actual relationship with, was being beat to death… so bad she couldn’t even recognize his face… he didn’t even have one.
Rain began to poor and thunder cried out, Danzo threatened Kae that he would slit her throat if she said anything. Kae associated storms with death after that day, losing both parents during one. Her mother left during a storm, and so did her father, finally being able to reach the AfterLife and be with Mayumi.
Kae was in such a state of shock that she laid in the mud for a while, stood up, and wandered around the streets of Konoha for hours until Shisui found her standing in the street, utterly soaked and frozen in disbelief. He gently shook her, snapping in her face before she just fell into his arms. Shisui takes her into his residence and dries her up, bandages her wounds and bruises, before asking her what happened.
When Kae sort of snapped out of her traumatic state she told Shisui everything, and it just fueled his hate for Danzo even more. He was disgusted by the brutality that Kae had witnessed, and that she was just beginning to have a bond with her father. She had a hole in her heart, one that wouldn’t heal any time soon.
➵ Shisui’s Goodbye⁀➴
Kae was doing ANBU duties alongside Itachi, scouting out for any intruders, unaware that Shisui was getting his eye gouged out by Danzo. They both didn’t know Shisui was being persued by the ROOT, getting himself poisoned by the Aburame clan, and losing his right eye, his prized possession.
It was only until the pained gasps and groans and the sound of swishing did she turn around and was met with horror. Shisui, who was mortally wounded, crimson blood dripped down his face from his closed eye, as Itachi helped him rest against a tree. She was at his side before both Uchiha could blink, despite his pain, Shisui gave her a smirk. A smirk that shattered her heart.
Shisui told Kae to get out of here, she shouldn’t stay any longer. She knew something wasn’t right, and her instincts were correct. Her childhood friend, her best friend, her secret lover… was dying right in front of her without telling her anything. Kae was adamant about staying, and Shisui shook his head with a chuckle.
Kae and Itachi helped Shisui up, taking him to the location he wanted to go… the Naka River. Shisui and Itachi kept whispering about a coup within the Uchiha clan, Kae had no idea what they were talking about. Clearly the other two were not keeping up with the pact they created years ago. Kae mentioned the pact but the other two didn’t acknowledge it, showing her how serious this was.
They reached the cliff of the river, Shisui and Itachi overlooked it while Kae stood a few feet behind them, chewing her nails to the nub. Kae knew how much Shisui was devoted to his clan and Konoha… his heart never being claimed victim to the Curse of Hatred that ran in the Uchiha clan. Along with his loyalty to the police force. But Konoha was above his clan in loyalty.
Shisui told Itachi his plan and how Danzo stole his right eye, she was asked to leave before they spoke but she refused yet again. Shisui admired her strong will and never backing down, but this time it irritated him. Kae was a witness to Shisui entrusting his remaining eye to Itachi, and she went over and begged for him to stop and listen. Shisui finished his goodbye with Itachi before he turned to face a devastated Kae, he didn’t need to see her to know her expression.
He silenced her heart-shattering pleads with a kiss, a kiss filled with so much pain and heartache, yet passion that he nearly knocked Kae over before he picked her up. Itachi, feeling awful and like this was a private moment, gave the two privacy for their final moments together. Shisui continued to kiss her, keeping the kiss long, emotion filled, and something she wouldn’t forget.
He wouldn’t let her speak on purpose, not wanting to hear her voice with sadness in his final moments. He was leaving so much unanswered that Kae needed to know. After what felt like an eternity, Shisui put her down and pushed Kae back, not super strong, but enough to make her fall. Her butt hit the ground, and when she looked up, she saw Shisui fall backwards off the cliff.
Her world stopped at that moment, rationality went out the window the moment he disappeared. Kae didn’t think, she acted. Shisui had promised to take her to the upcoming festival... He promised her, Shisui didn’t break his promises, but he did this one. Itachi knew she was fast, Shisui knew she was fast, but not this fast. Before Itachi noticed and could stop Kae, she leaped right off the edge after Shisui, who was nearing the water fast.
Noticeable rocks were at the bottom, but she didn’t care, she only cared about getting to Shisui. She reached out, screaming as Shisui fell, eyes closed and smiling. He already accepted his death, why? Itachi watched when Shisui hit the water, his best friend disappeared beneath the murky waters as Kae soon followed. Shisui was gone. Itachi knew jumping after her was stupid, so, he quickly made his way down to the bank.
The force of Kae falling down was strong, her breaking through a the water felt like the force of concrete. The force combined with the chilling cold and shallow rocks caused her to black out, not before she saw a shadow disappear down stream.
By the time Itachi reached the bank and found Kae, she was blue-skinned and had a gash on her temple, but she still had a pulse albeit weak. Kae got a concussion when she hit the water, her brain forgot the entire encounter except for finding Shisui with Itachi and Shisui’s goodbye, everything about the coup was forgotten. Her memory was also spotty, and she had trouble remembering certain aspects of her life. When she later heard about Shisui’s fake su*cide note she believed that could’ve been why, but Shisui showed no sign of thinking about that.
She attended the funeral held for Shisui, but there was no body.
Shisui’s death happening only a few months after he fathers murder ruined her mental health, sending her deeper into the whirlpools of depression along with her amnesia, one she couldn’t escape from, she just kept sinking deeper and deeper. She lost both her father and her better-than-friend best friend in a short amount of time, her brain couldn’t handle it. Her depression was deep, strong, and incapacitating, causing her to stay in her home and sob.
Since she suffered from permanent memory loss, she was so confused about the entire encounter since it didn’t add up, it made no sense. She eventually just accepted what happened, but not over Shisui’s death, she would never recover from that. She did return to the river many times throughout her later years, searching for any sign of Shisui… she never found anything.
Both Kurenai and Kakashi helped bring Kae out of her misery, even Tsunade helped too. Since Kakashi lost his father, Rin, and Obito, he knew exactly where Kae was, and gave her some guidance to keep her on the earth. He heard about how skilled she was from Hiruzen, so they spoke several times. Kurenai told her that she is always welcome to stop by whenever she needed too. Their support helped some, but it wasn’t enough to heal the marks both Arashi and Shisui left on Kae, marks she’d carry to her grave.
➵ Detective In Kumogakure⁀➴
Kae was freshly twenty in Naruto Classic, having bounced between the Miyano clan and Kurenai’s house, still keeping in touch with Itachi even after the massacre. The Uchiha Massacre hurt Kae deeply, seeing an entire clan, a clan that felt like her second home being slaughtered ruined any hope of peace within the Leaf for a while. She knew that Shisui wouldn’t have allowed the massacre to happen if he was still alive. She also offered to help Sasuke if he ever needed anything, he was very adamant that he didn’t need her help, not even some speed training. He always kept her offer in mind.
Kae and Itachi became more close after Shisui’s death, Itachi checked in and monitored Kae from the shadows and kept Danzo at bay. Whenever they checked in on each other or mourned Shisui in Classic, Itachi would always ask for some updates on Sasuke, Kae would always tell him about Team Seven and Sasuke’s progress, occasionally detailing their shenanigans, making both of them laugh despite the circumstances.
Itachi knew about Kae’s memory loss, thankful that his and Shisui’s entire conversation wasn’t something she remembered, he asked a question and she had no idea what he was talking about. He did know that she was skeptical of what really happened between them seeing Shisui and Shisui’s death. He felt somewhat relieved that this kept her life out of Danzo’s hands, kind of.
Kae returned to her ANBU duties months after the tragedies, when she felt better, now taking up the task of tracking down missing Nin, cold cases, and missing children under Hiruzen. He knew she specialized in tracking and enjoyed being able to save lives. Like Shisui before her, Hiruzen granted Kae freedom with her duties, which she used to her advantage. She mainly focused on tracking down missing traitors and high-risk children to bring them to safety.
She was often accompanied by Takumi Kashiki, a girl who she teamed up with in the ANBU in her younger years. They both took on murder cases, they both were on scene during the Chūnin Exams when Anko Mitarashi found three Hidden Grass Ninjas missing their faces, one being Shiore.
Her endless nights of going through old files and papers as old as the Third Hokage brought Kae to a un-finished missing Rouge Ninja case whose only evidence pointed toward Kumogakure. Wanting to solve both the case and wanting to feel closer to her father and his roots that her blood is very connected too, she decided to pursue it. Her lifelong dream to bring peace between both the Cloud and Leaf resurfaced and she also seeked that out.
After marking down her route, preparing her speech for the Raikage, and checking with the Third Hokage, Kae set off for Kumogakure on her own. Kae had noticed that Danzo had been keeping a eye on her movements, and took the case to get as far away from Danzo and his ROOT as she could. He made her have panic attacks. Words couldn’t describe the hatred she had for the man. When a crow secretly sent by Itachi Uchiha with word that Hiruzen was killed by Danzo, Kae decided to permanently stay in Kumogakure with the truth that her case was much bigger and deeper than she originally thought.
Stepping foot in Kumogakure, Kae decided to continue under her real identity and speak with the Fourth Raikage A. Once in his presence, she explained her reasons for coming, explaining the old case she had tracked down to the Cloud and that she was seeking justice. Kae soon noticed that she was still representing the Leaf and decided to spill the truth.
Kae revealed both her Cloud and Leaf roots, born to a Cloud father and Leaf mother, she told A that she also seeked out her Cloud roots. She showed her unnatural affinity with Lightning Release as well as her lightning strike story, and mentioned how she developed Tempest Release. Kae revealed that her father was Arashi Kumoi, a traitor, A needed proof and it was confirmed by Darui with a trip to the archives. The Third Raikage was bitter and labeled Arashi as Kill On Sight, but A dismissed this since it was twenty years ago and Arashi had been declared deceased.
Kae explains what Arashi did was out of love and that he left mentally shattered. She says that she only wants revenge on the man in the Leaf that was responsible for her father’s death, that was it, she was not going to be a part of the Cold War between the villages, and was not going to participate in helping either side, she stated she was strictly neutral.
Kae had heard of the things that A was capable of, but she wasn’t scared. Shisui told her to always stand for what was right and what she believed in, and that was what she was doing. A was very fond of her determination, a 4,10 girl standing her ground against the feared Raikage, he knew he could put her to some good use to bring the Leaf Rouge Nin to justice, he ultimately decided to let her stay. But she would be under watch until he deems she’s fully trustworthy.
She’s soon confronted by Karui, who expressed some frustration about Kae’s ties to the Leaf but ended up becoming cool with her when Kae explained her duty and neutrality between the Cloud and Leaf. They both bonded over the fact that they were both distant relatives.
During her two and a half years in the cloud village, Kae not only helped A catch the Rouge Nin cleanly, but also solve some cases and came to understand his frustrations with the Leaf and how he ultimately just wants to protect his village. It still didn’t excuse the unnecessary sacrifices of innocent civilians in order to achieve his goal in her eyes. She truly hated death and disharmony, perhaps more than she hated Danzo.
Hopeful that one day both Villages could unite and strike a peace agreement, she remained upbeat for the future that may be good and her dream that could come true.
➵ Return to Konoha (SHIPPUDEN) ⁀➴
Kae is 22 during Shipudden, and remains in the Cloud as Head Detective of the Tracking System until she hears the death of Asuma Sarutobi at the hands of Hidan of the Akatsuki. Kae quickly decides to head back to Konoha, mainly to check in on Kurenai, but also to speak to the Fifth Hokage about the matters at hand and what she could do to help.
Kae is welcomed back by the Miyano clan, who celebrate her long absence, and she is happy to be back until figuring out she’s being watched by the ROOT once again. While Kae was gone Danzo investigated her whereabouts on the night Shisui died, and he came to the conclusion that she had to be a witness, meaning she knew his ultimate goals. Kae didn’t know. Danzo also was questioning her loyalty to the Leaf since she remained in Kumogakure for so long, she had to be plotting something with the Raikage.
Tsunade gave Kae a list of missing civilians during casualties, as well as Rouge Nin and those suspected of working secretly with the Akatsuki. Kae was appointed as second-in-command of the Konoha Search team, a team consisting of ANBU, secret ROOT members because Danzo mentioned to Tsunade to specifically appoint Kae to her position. His plan was put into motion.
Kae was deeply saddened to learn that Sasuke had betrayed the Leaf, wishing he would’ve tried to reach out, she would always be willing to help talk things out. She ultimately did see this as a possible outcome due to Itachi’s role in the Uchiha Massacre. She didn’t see Sasuke as a enemy, she’d only help if it was to bring him back to Konoha.
Still doing her appointed duties, Kae planned that once the conflict was finally over, she would leave her duties as an ANBU and take up her clans offer and be the representative for the Miyano clan, like her mother was. She planned to ask Tsunade if she could be the diplomat for both the Cloud and Leaf, being the bridge and hoping to unite both villages by forming a peace agreement or alliance. She would finally make her dream come true.
Kae gave it her all with the investigations, having successfully saved several lives with the help of Takumi, unaware that half of the ANBU under her are helping Danzo. Discouraged by the conformed death of Itachi, Danzo decided to frame Kae and place her at the scene of the crime of Shisui Uchiha, and her part of conspiring with the Cloud against the Leaf to do and infiltration attack or to act as a Cloud spy.
Kae is soon viewed as a traitor by the townsfolk that believed Danzo’s lie, Danzo knew the more she was hated, the further out of the village she would be pushed. Making an attack easy. Through Takumi, who overheard the ROOT, Kae was being betrayed by her own investigation team who sided with Danzo, the volunteers used the excuse to get close to Kae for Danzo.
Everything was crashing down around her, except for the loyalty and support from those she loved.
After Danzo had two ROOT ninjas secretly abduct a young girl from the Hyūga clan. Danzo was going to set up a fake rescue in hopes that the Hyūga girl would die and Kae would be seen as the murderer before she would be swiftly silenced, her body being lost to the river.
Kae was the only thing besides Sasuke standing in his way.
Kae willingly helped the parents of the girl by vowing to find her. She told Takumi that she’d send a sign in case something bad happened. Kae swiftly followed the leads before finding the little girl in the middle of a field, which was all a trap, a ROOT member was hiding in the shadows, waiting to strike.
Kae used her Wind Release, using strong wind currents to lift the girl up into the air and over to where she stood, pointing the girl in the direction of Takumi. Once the girl was gone, an unseen attacker sliced through the air, slitting Kae’s neck vertically before doing a blitz attack, soon severing her jugular, causing her to bleed out instantly.
Kae reflexively sent a charge of lightning into the air, signaling to Takumi before she fell to the ground. Kae was left bleeding out in a pool of blood, her throat having been slit so violently that she was almost fully decapitated. She had less than five minutes until she died, and Takumi wouldn’t reach her in time.
Kae had bled out by the time Takumi reached her. Kae died alone, just like Shisui did, not knowing she was jumping in right after him. Sasuke had been meaning to seek Kae out, wanting more answers on Itachi since they were close, she was one of the few people who he knew would most likely know. Sasuke heard of her death from the shadows of the village, his only way of knowing why Itachi did what he did was gone… and Kae never got to see the day when Sasuke avenged her, Itachi, and Shisui by killing Danzo Shimura.
Kae was given a burial when Takumi brought her back. Many from Konoha attended, only those who favored Danzo didn’t. Those who she touched in the Cloud came to pay their respects, and Kae saved a child in her final moments. She was buried on the Miyano land next to her parents.
Kae arrived in the Afterlife, her appearance was that of when she was sixteen, and she was greeted by familiar faces. She was finally reunited with Shisui, her father, her mother she never met, Itachi, and everyone she ever lost during her short life. She finds peace in death, the peace she was denied in life, and can finally find rest.
I like to think all the clan’s common sense and charm went to Shisui after skipping many generations
In dire need of Shisui running his hands down Itachi's chest
Take this Shisui as bleach to rid your soul of Sui. 🤲🏻
What did AI DO TO SHISUI!?!?!? That ain’t my Shisui, that’s Sui, Sui is ugly as all get out. Get off my screen.
