I sometimes forget that normal people are afraid of the devil and have never seen him face to face, negotiated with him or have been burnt alive by him or eaten alive from the inside, that they haven't looked at the Lady and seen a nymph, a dragon and a snake at the same time in her ever-changing expression while she gives you a pearl that isn't a pearl, proving she's the great deceiver, the greatest occult secret hidden at plain sight, how they have never danced with barely human resembling creatures.
There's a point where I get surprised these things are considered blood-curdling, it is crazy how much horror tolerance I've got from these experiences and what's even worse, I can't help being irresistibly seduced by them (as if I wanted to help it).
The Witch Caves of Zugarramurdi
During one of the biggest witch trials in Spain, there was one place that was thought to be more filled with witchcraft than others. In the so-called Witch Caves of Zugarramurdi in the Basque country, it was said that witches gathered for sabbaths.
During one of the biggest witch trials in Spain, there was one place that was thought to be more filled with witchcraft than others. In the so-called Witch Caves of Zugarramurdi in the Basque country, it was said that witches gathered for sabbaths and akellares. The witch hunt hit Europe hard, and Spain was no different. The Inquisition in Spain was brutal and perhaps one of the darkest chapters…
Eguzkilore (Berganzo, Álava, 30.05.2024)
Hung on doors in Basque Country, this flower was believed to ward off witches and evil spirits.
posters I made for school screenings of these great movies !!
most of you have probably seen Promare, but if you can don't hesitate to give Akelarre (Coven in English) and The Witches of the Orient a shot !
Pedro Olea - Akelarre (1984)
I hope none of you are sleeping on this movie on Netflix: Akelarre, also called Coven. It's a basque film from 2020 about a group of teenage girls being accused of being witches in 1609. Don't worry, it's actually pretty good. None of that American puritan influence, this is a European catholic witch hunt.
