I watched a programme yesterday about Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and his associated awards scheme. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards is celebrating 60 years since it was first established by Prince Philip and thus, the Prince grudgingly allowed Philip Schofield to meet with him a few times in order to make the programme.
I have to confess a liking for the brusque old bugger (‘scuse me Your Royal Highness if you happen across my blog) and I really appreciate the ethics and motivations behind the Awards.
I wish I had the opportunity to take part in the DofE Awards when I was young. I think it might have made a difference to me. The challenges, physical and emotional, pushing yourself to your own limits, being outdoorsy – all might have helped me become someone a little different and more adventurous as an adult. As it is, I refuse to be anywhere where there isn’t an en-suite – unless it’s in Second Life when I’ll happily take part in bear-wrestling, leaping from tall buildings and traversing inhospitable terrain.
I think the ideas the Awards put forth have never been more relevant, honestly. Young people are increasingly spending their time indoors and isolated, socialising only online and playing games when, at least some of the time, it would be better for them to get out into the world and see what they can offer it, and it can offer them in return.
If you have a hatchling aged between 14 and 25, it might be something you could suggest to them, here’s the official Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards website link. I believe there are schemes all over the world.

About:
If you want a fuzzy sweater like I wanted a fuzzy sweater, than I have just the fuzzy sweater for you! We’ll have none of these naff Christmas jumpers, when we can channel Mariah Carey through a fuzzy sweater with style. The Vinyl Holly Fuzzy Sweater is a well made, long sleeved (love those sleeves), plunge-necked, midriff tied piece of knitwear with a range of colours designed to tickle your fancy.
Ignore the thing I said about Mariah Carey… I don’t know what came over me.
You can find the sweater at The Liaison Collaborative this month, so hop on over.
Here’s a couple more pics including my ‘well lit, no shit’ shot…
And finally, here is my jigging for the rigging video… I feel cool, I think it’ll all be okay today.
Second Life Fashion from ReadMeri | Jump I watched a programme yesterday about Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and his associated awards scheme.
My lovely Auntie is going to be 88 this week. She’s the second oldest in the family, it was a big family. Some of her siblings have already died and, while keeping her chin defiantly up, she’s aware that her time left may be short. She’s in good health, a little frailer than when I last saw her but I prefer to see her in my head just as she was 20 years ago. We went on a caravan holiday to some remote campsite, just outside Ingoldmells. It wasn’t exotic or exciting, but it was a fun holiday. Just her and my cousin, me and my Mum. We fed the donkeys in the next field.
Each day she’d send me (as the youngster) to go and get her a paper and she’d study the day’s runners, before we popped off to the bookies for her to place her bets. She never bet much, but she has always been lucky.
She wore yellow polka-dot blouses and blue or red pants. Her hair still done just as it was in the 50s, with pipe cleaners for curlers. She found some mechanical wind-up willies in a novelty store and alternated between covering her mouth and laughing behind her hand and doubling over pointing at them as they marched around, their little heads bobbing.
She loves toilet humour. We were playing cards in the caravan one rainy afternoon and as I bent from my seat to the little table, I let out a little fart. Well, that was hilarious, she’s never stopped talking about it since and god forbid I’m ever allowed to forget it. ‘Did someone drop a bag of apples?’ she cried.
She doesn’t know many people, aside from the ones she meets at the Bingo each week, but she keeps folks at a distance. She loves her family without hesitation or exception, but will dislike somebody on TV for almost no reason. She’s never met my partner, nor my last, but she’s shy and prefers to keep it to just us.
If you saw anything in her house you liked, and told her so, she’d try to give it to you. She has nothing of any monetary value, but she has a wide collection of items fascinating to children – Spanish dolls, ornaments, fans, pictures, little figures made from seashells.
Please join me in wishing her a very happy 88th birthday, she’s had a tough life, one that I couldn’t have survived and she’s still here, still beautiful and I’d like to her to be for much longer.
Also, happy Eid to all those who are finishing fasting today… bet you’re dying for a cookie!

About:
Blueberry’s Dana Set is a bra and pants – or is it – is it in fact a bikini? Or is it? Or is it a great outfit for working out if you’re already happy with your body? I don’t have the answers, but I decided it would work for all those occasions. It comes in a rainbow of colours with a HUD to change edging details. It’s available for purchase at the Blueberry Mainstore or Marketplace and I recommend it heartily to you.
Z O O M’s Holmes Watch I’ve blogged before, but I wear it a lot, so I thought I’d post a close-up of it below so you can like it too and maybe get yourself one.

Below, please find the ‘jigging for the rigging’ video which I decided not to dance in today, but instead to run on the spot in a way which is almost impossible in real life :D

Summertimin in Style
Sitting outside on our new deck comprised of gacha items, this Summertime Collection set by Thaino Designs, is just plain fantastic. Plenty of room to sit, great food to share with great friends and even candles when it gets a bit darker outside. I was so excited about it, that I got all dressed up in this cute Bolo/Skirt outfit w/Heels by lady Dragon’s Designsas well. And the great thing is…
