okay i love kizu's art style but can we take a moment to appreciate how she draws kisses? the way lips are unevenly touching and how realistic that looks for a manga.
how they don't kiss the same. and they don't expect the same kind of kiss. these closeups to the lips not being perfectly fitting into each other's. i am genuinely in love.
The rustling of the plastic bag. The clinging of his keys. His own breathing and the sound of his sniffles in the cool autumn air. Akihiko smiled as these normal noises suddenly got blessed with the background sound of epic violin music.
He was home. He stood before the door for a moment, listening to the music and taking it all in. His boyfriend was as talented as ever. He listened for a short while, then finally entered the apartment. As expected, the violin music stopped.
“Ah, you’re back. Late again,” Ugetsu said, turning around and putting away his violin. Akihiko couldn’t help but smile at the fact that Ugetsu had been anticipating his return. Even scolding him for his late return. Akihiko did not tell him he had been standing in front of the door because he was listening to his violin tunes.
Instead, he placed the plastic bag on the table and gave Ugetsu a greeting kiss.
“I got you these.”
“What is it?” Ugetsu asked, opening the bag a little to peek inside, but Akihiko took it from him again and began to stall out his findings.
“Halloween themed candy.” He pointed first at the green frog, ready to announce his purchases in style.
“Poisonous frog gummy. Named him Edward. Probably so sweet your teeth will dissolve at the first bite,” he said.
Ugetsu raised his eyebrows. “You even named him? You’re such a nerd.”
Ignoring him, Akihiko pointed at the next one. “From the haunted forest caves in the underworld, these liquorice bats.”
“Ew, Aki. Don’t buy things we are not going to eat,” Ugetsu sighed.
“Lastly, straight from the cauldron of the most evil witch of evil witches. These cursed candy mouses. No idea what they will taste like, but as you can see, they are mouses.”
Ugetsu was looking at the mouses with his nose scrunched up. Heh, cute.
“Then we have these,” Akihiko said, taking out the Halloween soda drinks he had scored.
“This red drink, it’s a potion. To make you fall in love with me.” Ugetsu rolled his eyes when he said that. Akihiko merely chuckled and touched the black colored soda.
“This one, god knows what it will taste like, but a little skeleton told me it’s an elixir that will make you grow taller,” he said.
“Watch it, Aki~” Ugetsu warned, though he was grinning and definitely looking amused now. Akihiko grinned and grabbed the final drink, a green colored soda drink.
“And we also have this special brew,” he said, and he smirked already when he made up his mind about that one. “Drink this and… it will turn you less ticklish. Now which of these treats would you like to have first-?” Akihiko watched in surprise how Ugetsu barely let him finish talking as he picked the frog and ripped it out of its plastic coat.
“The frog that will dissolve your teeth?” Akihiko asked, raising his eyebrows when Ugetsu sank his teeth into it and tore its head off.
“Edward you mean. Yes. My teeth are fine. It’s decent. Not bad,” Ugetsu said to Akihiko’s suprise. He lifted the green soda and held it in front of Ugetsu’s face.
“You don’t want the green drink to match with it? It will turn you less ticklish,” Akihiko repeated. Ugetsu smirked.
“Now why would I want to be less ticklish?” he asked with his mouth full of green gummy, not accepting the drink.
“Because I always tickle you to death?” Akihiko asked, frowning in confusion. Ugetsu looked indifferent though.
“And did I ever say I hate it?” he said.
Well no but…
Akihiko stared at Ugetsu. There was a cute blush on his face. Oh. He couldn’t help himself. Suddenly they were kissing. Ugetsu hadn’t even emptied his mouth yet, so the kiss was sweet and sticky as the strong flavor was shared with Akihiko through the kiss.
The kiss took Ugetsu by surprise and he hastily grabbed Akihiko’s shoulders, but Akihiko pressed himself tightly against his lover and kissed him hungrily. Meanwhile he brought his hands towards his sides and started to tickle.
“Pffahh! Hmmhhah!” Ugetsu started to make weird sounds in the middle of their candy kiss, but Akihiko persistently continued to tickle him. He didn’t hate it huh? Oh he was going to get it.
“Hmhhhh!” Ugetsu squirmed and took a few steps back, but Akihiko wasn’t letting him escape. In fact, Ugetsu backed himself in a corner, and when he finally swallowed the remaining frog candy, that was when Akihiko really chose to strike. He viciously tickled his lover’s tummy, clawing ruthlessly at the ticklish spot and making him squeal.
“HAHahah! Ahah-Akeheheh!” Ugetsu laughed, sliding to the floor. Akihiko snickered and went after him, tickling him everywhere he could with rapid moves.
“Yes? You don’t hate it, huh? Then what? Then what?” he teased. Of course he knew Ugetsu didn’t hate being tickled. He wouldn’t do it to him if he disliked it. Ugetsu would squirm, struggle and cuss at him but all quite subtly, and he never seemed to mind too much.
However, now that Ugetsu openly admitted he wouldn’t even want to be less ticklish and that he didn’t hate it… didn’t that almost literally translate to him loving it? It did, right? Akihiko wanted to hear him say it.
“Nahaha- nohothing! Gahaha!” Ugetsu’s laughter could only sound this exact way when Akihiko would tickle him, and he loved it. Loved it. But if Ugetsu loved it too, then Akihiko was the happiest man on earth.
“Say it,” he demanded, wiggling his fingers up his torso, past his sides and ribs.
“AHhha! Sahahay whahat!” Ugetsu laughed, struggling when he seemed to realize where Akihiko’s hands were going.
“You know what I mean,” Akihiko said, threatening him with the armpit tickling of a lifetime by resting his fingers right underneath them where he playfully wiggled them against Ugetsu’s upper ribs. Ugetsu arched his back and gasped.
“Nahahah! No I dohohon’t!”
“Alright then.” Akihiko staked his attempts at getting that confession and began to tickle Ugetsu’s armpits. They both were having the time of their lives, or well, Akihiko was. And Ugetsu was laughing loudest, and most likely enjoying it so yes, both of them were having a good time.
“AHahah! Akeheheh! Aki haahahah nohoho!”
“No?” Akihiko asked, genuinely confused. He dug firmly into the centers of Ugetsu’s armpits and felt him jerk beneath him.
“Really no?” he asked.
“No whahahat?!”
“That’s what I wanted to know.”
There was something off about their communication here, but it could be because Akihiko was just blinded by his love for ticklish Ugetsu, and Ugetsu was laughing his precious head off.
“HEhehee! Ahahalright enahaha- enough now!” Ugetsu warned. Hmm, okay. Akihiko finally stopped the tickle attack on Ugetsu and he pulled his hands back. He bent down and kissed his lips again. The taste of the sweet frog was still lingering there.
“Did you not hate this?” Akihiko asked after Ugetsu tenderly returned the kiss. He lightly tickled Ugetsu’s stomach to support his question, making him giggle.
“I didn’t,” Ugetsu admitted.
“So?” Akihiko asked. Say you love it then! Ugetsu gave him a look.
“So, nothing. Aki. Geez, you’re being weird. Hmh. Let me taste one of these,” Ugetsu said, casually getting up again and grabbing the package of mysterious mouses. Akihiko stared blankly at him.
“You’re not tasting the potions?” he asked.
“You taste them Aki.”
Akihiko got up and smiled. Alright then, he didn’t get Ugetsu to literally say he liked being tickled. But he had definitely gotten close. He watched how Ugetsu smiled confidently while he put a little mouse between his teeth, and he opened a drink - its sweet aroma already reaching Akihiko with the speed of light.
“You take this one, Aki,” he said. Ah, the green drink. That was the one Akihiko imagined as the potion that would turn a person less ticklish. Oh and Ugetsu was smirking now. Why was he smirking.
“Don’t you want to?” Ugetsu sang. Akihiko then understood, and he turned around. That was right. There were two ticklish people in this relationship.
“No, Ugetsu~”
“Yes, Aki~”
He smiled as he was chased around the small space, which was still filled with the sweet chemical scent from the candy and potions. Hmm. Not bad at all.
A preview for an early access illustration I did to celebrate receiving my first lil pool of Patreon subscribers! How exciting! (Will post a full version in the coming days).
Anyway, I watched all of Given recently (incl the films) and Akihiko and Ugetsu are unquestionably problematic, toxic and codependent musicians so naturally I am obsessed with how terrible they are for each other - UNFff.
Warning: MAJOR TGCF spoilers (ch 241) and Given (ch 26) Spoilers
Thinking about Given and Ugetsu suddenly feeling the immense emptiness of losing Akihiko that is then replaced by the calm of finally being able to let go and free himself from the chrysalis 🦋 .
TGCF and Xielian suddenly feeling the immense emptiness of losing HC that is then replaced by the calm of believing that he will be back as the butterflies 🦋 dissipate.

Soundless gasps.... one is losing someone but they are at least alive in this world and breaking free from toxicity and the other is knowing someone will be back but it could be 1 year or 800 years and one must hold onto that faith day by day.
So this is probably one of the widest spread 'belief's in given fandom that Akihiko was the clingy one in AkiUge. He was the one who couldn't give UP, wouldn't let go. I did get a CC about this once too because I have always said the opposite. I had thought about making a thread then. But then real life got in the way and I couldn't.
Anyway. I do think that Ugetsu had always been the clingy one in AkiUge, at least in the present manga timeline and the thread below is why.
So this (code 8) is the first time we see Ugetsu in the Manga outside of Akihiko's thoughts. (We saw him in Aki's memory before in code 7 and that was very suspicious too but I'll talk about that at the end of this thread.)
This is him, clinging to Akihiko here. Asking for attention. Akihiko did NOT initiate the contact. This is him showing some interest in Akihiko knowing full well that he craves it. (or not knowing it, I am never sure what the fandom at large wants to think Ugetsu as, clever man who pays attention to everything, who can read Mafuyu or Akihiko and read the situation better than most OR just a dumb asshole who just obliviously manages to do the exact thing that'll hurt the other party the most because he is emotionally unstable and too in love.
This is him asking Aki to play violin with him because his current boyfriend is not up to his liking and obv that automatically means or implies that Akihiko at least is better liked than the guy he called his boyfriend then because he only liked that guy for his face.
Do I think he is being honest here? I don't, but I won't tell anyone to come to any conclusions either. I am just pointing things out here.
The second time we saw him, this is what happened. Akihiko once again did not start the conversation.
I personally think it's because he had been abused for a long time and knew to stay wary of Ugetsu when happy at least subconsciously, but people can think differently.
So this is what happened here, he saw Akihiko was happy, and asked what it was he was being happy about, very not suspicious behavior for someone who really is interested in another person. And then when he got Akihiko's attention he proceeded to ignore him. The thing I find intriguing here is how he thought it's a 'shame', we don't know exactly what the shame is.
The unofficial translation made it a bit more obvious, “to let it go.” but let's stick to the official one, because clearly Kizu is trying to remain vague here.
But, this thing, as far as I am concerned, does tie to this scene there in code 17, “I am sure I will never find anyone better than him.” “He really is a good guy.”
This is when he is thinking about that time that he broke the mug and he regrets it.
What he regretting about is the question, breaking the mug? Or endangering his relationship with Akihiko because he'll never find another one like him? You think about your own answer, I have mine.
OK, so then jumping back to code 16, which is the next time that we see Ugetsu. I am sure the whole thing he did here is to get away from Akihiko too xD
NO I am being sarcastic but the thing is that Ugetsu is never not consistent. It's up to you how much you want to justify him. You do you.
But at least don't try to deny that here too Ugetsu did initiate the things between them. Akihiko actually gritted his teeth when he realized Ugetsu had come back. But well he proceeded to have sex so ofc you can go blame him.
There is this scene in code 20 where Aki has been thinking about the basement, and we see Ugetsu clinging to him in bed too. Which might be symbolic knowing Kizu, but which is there. Ugetsu spooning Akihiko when Aki is looking in the opposite direction.
And then I get back to the initial scene of Akihiko thinking about Ugetsu, which I think had been their first time or at least first sexual contact, and there also I think Ugetsu had been the initiator but this is just me thinking and I am not asking anyone to believe things the way I do without any proof. But here also we see Ugetsu touching Aki's palm on his own cheek and it's not the other way around.
Okay, then, after Akihiko got out of the basement, this was the first and only time he went back to it. Code 26. And this is what happened. Ugetsu being playful with him. Hitting him with a pillow probably, “Are you my mom?” then asking why Aki wants to get out of there, then losing his shit because ofc he loved Aki too much. 😔Aki never initiated any contact except being mildly worried about his well being, but presumably he had been over Ugetsu by then so that was expected.
Code 27, Ugetsu understands that it's Haruki who is responsible for whatever he anticipated, then fully knowing that trying to get away so that Akihiko can not catch up to him outside of the basement. This is in clear contrast with how Haruki reacted to Akihiko playing the violin too.
But then the whole thing happened where Ugetsu stunned Akihiko asking if he was breaking up with him or not whereas as far as Akihiko was concerned there was nothing to break up, but he went along with him so yeah… 🤧 but I digress.
Anyway. The thing I tried to point out here is that Ugetsu had always been the toxically clingy one in this relationship. You can justify how you want it to. I don't care.
That doesn't mean Akihiko is not the clingy one by nature. That's his weakness actually. Which Ugetsu exploited.
Ofc everyone can think for themselves. And come to different conclusions. The fact remains though that Kizu has shown Ugetsu to be the clingy one in that relationship.
