The case of Tsukishima Akiteru was an interesting case to try and figure out.
Tsukishima Kei had determined that a major reason was that third years in high school are just weird.
Kei, although five years younger and not quite as emotionally intelligent, had picked up on a few things that could have led to his brother’s strange personality change. He had come to the conclusion that it was due to Akiteru’s best friend. It’s not as if she had poisoned him? It is possible though, Kei noted as Akiteru practiced flirting in the mirror one evening after she had come to study.
Hello! Can I request tsukishima & number 13 for your ask game please 💝
Hellooooo, so since you didn't specify which Tsukishima and I've always wanted to write about my dearest, beloved, big brother Akiteru, I'm gonna write about him.
Your heart fits like a key - Tsukishima Akiteru x Reader
Akiteru knows he shouldn’t complain. There are plenty of people out there who have it worse than him. Most days he’s fine with it, truly, can take his little brother’s attitude as what it is - he’s still just a prickly teenager after all.
But sometimes, everything cuts a little deeper, and playing for some team feels more like a burden than joy. He’s barely above average, not tall enough, not strong enough, not quick enough… not smart enough.
There are days when he doubts he’s doing the right thing.
It’s on a day like that he spots you in the stands, oversized hoodie making you look smaller than you are. You’re clapping and cheering for every point and if he plays a little better just because of you, it’s going to be his secret and his alone.
You’re incredibly cute, but he just can’t bring himself to approach you.
He’s just some player, after all. Not the ace, not the Captain, who misses at least one training session per week because of College.
Akiteru would readily nag Kei if he ever dared to talk like that.
But he’s not above admitting it himself. He’s a little scared and not at all ready to face his fears.
Until you come by again.
And again.
And again.
-
By now he knows your name, your College major, and your favorite drink. You’re related to the team's Libero - or at least your mother’s are very close - and you tend to sit next to Akiteru when the team goes out for drinks after a game.
It’s pretty obvious to those who’ve got to know him, how he falls silent the moment you slip into the spot next to him. How he can’t help but listen to every word you speak, even if it’s just you mumbling over what to order.
If only they’d stop trying to matchmake.
“Oh, Akiteru,” Tsutomu claps him on the shoulder, “Can you do me a favor?”
“Uh, sure, what do you need?”
Tsutomu points at the door. You’re waving back at him and Akiteru’s heart lurches up into his throat.
“Can you walk her home? I promised but my girlfriend’s back and I’d much rather spend time with her.”
Cold sweat is running down his neck. He can’t say no, but can he say yes?
-
Your hand folds around his, your skin warm against the coldness of his.
“Tsutomu says you’re into me,” you tell him, warm eyes not leaving him as he chokes on his breath. “Is he lying?”
“You should know,” Akiteru chokes out when he’s able to breathe again, “That I’m not a great volleyball player. I didn’t play one game in High School.”
“And?”
“And?” He asks back, a little confused. Shouldn’t that be enough reason?
“Are you aware that volleyball skills are not that important for a relationship?”
There’s a moment of silence, tense enough that he could hear a pin drop. Your hand is still folded around his, his heart beats too fast to be healthy.
Your lips form into a smile and he can’t help but mirror it.
Soon you are giggling, and he’s laughing along.
Sometimes he feels less then, but today, he feels on top of the world.
My Kofi if you want to tip me
∞
“Y/N?” HE WHISPERED.
"hm?" you hummed.
"are you asleep?"
you don't remember at which point in the story you'd drifted off to sleep but your exhaustion rendered you silent. he needed not a reply when the soft snore that escaped your lips was enough to answer itself.
he chuckles. closing his copy of your book pick of the month, pride and prejudice, he exchanges it for a bath towel on the bathroom sink before shifting his weight from the stool perched beside the porcelain claw-foot tub to the rug adjacent.
"y/n." he says softly. "my love," he cups his large palm against your face, thumb stroking your cheekbone—lightly cooing for you to wake up. at first, you opt to not heed him any mind and continue with your slumber, but when he presses a kiss so delicate and warm against the temple of your forehead, it almost makes you forget that your bath water has since grown lukewarm, and the bubbles have started to dissolve.
he knows your weakness.
your eyes flutter open, blinking back drowsiness. you smile softly at the sight of him. he was so beautiful. he wore the kind of beauty that he wasn't aware of and that made him even lovelier.
you sighed gently.
"are you okay y/n?”
"you're just such a sight for sore eyes." you remark, grinning at his bashful reaction. "i didn't mean to interrupt your reading. you can keep going. i like when you read to me."
"nah, that's alright. we were done for the night. i'd much rather carry you to the room and have you sleep comfortably in our bed where it's safer. yeah?" he stands, spreading the towel open across his chest.
"yeah." you repeat, sleep thick in your voice; you stand, allowing him to envelope you in the towel and melt into his embrace.
you felt safest in his arms.

Confessions After Hours
word count: 1124 || avg. reading time: 5 mins.
pairing: Akiteru x chubby!Reader
genre: fluff, friends to lovers
warnings: like one time swearing
synopsis: accidental confession
You looked outside the café windows for the fourth time in the last 5 minutes, it was past closing time, all the cleaning was done and your fellow part-timers had already left. So you just tried to find some busy work to have a somewhat legitimate reason to stall. The rain was getting worse and by now you were pretty sure Akiteru wouldn’t come.
It’s not like it was an actual plan, you reminded yourself, it was just kind of implied that he wanted to walk you home but no one could expect him to go out in this weather.
And so you hummed to yourself while carefully brushing down mint leaves and edible flowers with egg whites and sugar.
Your mood dropped a little when you checked the clock again. You had been looking forward to spending time alone with Akiteru.
Of course, you had little hope that he was interested in you romantically but that didn’t stop you from dreamily staring at him during study sessions or making a fool of yourself whenever possible - like running into a glass door when he smiled at you like last week.
When you laid the sugar-coated decoration out on a baking sheet, a familiar figure caught your eye.
He stood on the other side of the road, waiting for a safe crossing. Quickly you walked over to the front door to unlock it and let him in.
“Ugh, wet.”, he commented, waddling in.
“Why didn’t you bring an umbrella?”, you asked incredulously when he pulled back his drenched hood and shook his soaked hair like a dog.
“We only have one and one of the others got it tonight.”, he explained as if that was normal.
You swallowed the start of what would probably be a rather long discussion about why it wasn’t smart that 4 roommates shared a singular umbrella and so instead opted for “You should get out of those wet clothes before you catch your death.”
He gave you an overly dramatic look of shock, clutching his soaked collar like a Victorian lady.
“Oh, grow up!”
Together you peeled him out of his hoodie (his t-shirt underneath was dry for the most part) and you considered the dripping bulk of fabric for a second, before making a decision.
Wringing out as much of the excess water as possible over the kitchen sink, you then opened the still-warm oven from the banana bread you made earlier and placed the black hoodie on a baking sheet inside.
Akiteru watched you with crossed arms and then asked in complete earnest, “How long do you think it needs?”
“I don’t know, Akiteru. I have never baked hoodie before. I’d give it like 5 minutes and then I’ll turn it over. We’ll see.”
To warm him up you brewed him a big mug of coffee in the already cleaned machine. A gesture that didn’t fail to impress. “I have never felt this special in my life.” He wrapped his large hands around the steaming cup and breathed in the cozy coffee scent.
“Don’t get used to it.”, you said, smiling, taking a sandwich and a bowl of fruit you had prepared for him earlier out of the fridge.
“This café has such excellent service. Thank you.”
You pulled a folder of various papers from a shelf, turning pages as if to check things - he didn’t need to know that you were just pretending. “So, how is the Kei situation - still hating the club?”
“Not so much hating, I’d say indifferent, which somehow is almost worse.”
“How come?”
“At least hate would indicate a strong emotion.”, he said wisely, plopping a grape in his mouth and feeding you one, too, while you were “busy” tapping something on your phone’s calculator and writing gibberish numbers on a slip of paper. When his fingertips accidentally brushed your lips in the process your brain came to a full stop.
“But the spring tournament is right around the corner and I am almost sure he is actually starting to enjoy himself - a little.”
Another grape.
He took a sip of coffee and sighed.
“Your coffee tastes like a hug.”
Your eyes lit up. “I… that is the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. You mean, like a good hug though, right? Not one of those half-assed one-armed thingies.”
He spluttered into his mug and coughed to clear his throat.
“Yes, a good hug. Both arms, full body contact. I am talking full-on cocoon.”
With a bragging smile, brain still fried, you said “I’ve been told I give pretty amazing hugs like that.” proudly pushing your chin up.
“Oh yeah? Well then let’s see what you got.”
You thought for a second, then dropped your highly important paperwork back on the counter. “Let’s have a look at your hoodie first, don’t want it to get too dark.”
A moment later you stood across from each other stretching as if getting ready for a fight. “Alright, give it your all.”, he said and opened his arms.
He had been ready for a lot of things. He had held your hand before, when navigating through a crowd (only as friends of course), so he was no stranger to the tingles your touch sent through his body.
What he hadn’t been ready for was your head to be leaning against his chest and your hands gently stroking over his back. He returned the hug immediately, placing one hand on your back and one gently cradling your head, resting his cheek against your temple. A perfect fit. It was better than he had ever imagined. Where did they even make people as soft and heavenly squishy as you? For many hasty heartbeats, he held you like this. Then you gave the smallest sigh and actually snuggled even closer to him. He couldn’t take it. It was too much. And so without thinking in one quiet breath, he let out, “Shit, I’m so in love with you.”
He felt you stiffen in his arms and prepared for the worst. You lifted your head to look at him, your eyes sleepy like you had been about to doze off.
Akiteru loosened his arms so you could pull away like you undoubtedly were going to. But you didn't.
"I'm... I'm sorry that was really stupid.", he said quickly.
"Don't worry, I accidentally tried freezing a cucumber last week. You're good.", you said in a drowsy sort of way.
"What?"
"What?"
He didn't know what to do. You hadn't pulled away. You weren't screaming or running away or hitting him. Instead, you got on your tip-toes, a hand on his chest, and smiled, before you set the softest kiss against his surprised lips.
how the cookie crumbles
pairing: tsukishima akiteru x gn!reader
synopsis: it's a thursday night and akiteru is craving something sweet
genre: fluff
wc: 1k
notes: this is for @cup-of-fluff’s ✨Time to Shine collab✨! i haven’t baked cookies from scratch in a long time, but i am a firm believer of mixing by hand to maximize the amount of love that goes into the cookies. 🍪
tsukishima akiteru finds you rummaging through the kitchen cabinets while humming along to the music playing from your phone on the counter.
the mixing bowls and measuring cups clink against the countertop as you gather ingredients. he leans against the doorframe of the kitchen and watches you nudge cabinet doors closed with your hip.
it's thursday night, so he knows that you and tadashi have come over to the apartment for your weekly movie night with kei. normally, akiteru will poke his head in to say hello and then quietly retreat to his room.
but tonight, he was craving something sweet after dinner.
"hey, hey," he raps his knuckles against the wooden doorframe. you were in the middle of a spin when you turn to face him. your face is adorably flushed, having been caught dancing around the kitchen by akiteru no less.
"uh, hi!" you stutter, suddenly embarrassed. you grip the edge of the countertop, with half a mind to bend down behind the kitchen counter and disappear.
you’ve harbored a small crush on kei's older brother but the two of you never spent much time alone. you were always hanging around kei and tadashi and akiteru can’t help but tease you during these fleeting encounters. your quips back at him don’t help the pounding of his heart against his chest or the fluttering of his stomach either.
usually, he always makes himself scarce during movie nights, for kei’s sake, and your schedules never seemed to align whenever you came over anyway. so akiteru can’t help but take this opportunity to steal this moment with you.
"what are you making?" he asks with a tilt of his head, pushing off the doorframe to walk around the kitchen island.
"i'm baking cookies!" you say, turning to busy yourself with pre-heating the oven. your face feels flushes, though you blame it on the oven as it hisses and pops quietly in the background. "i was craving something sweet since kei said that you made some cookies the other day."
akiteru hums as he opens the fridge door and takes out two sticks of butter and two eggs. he sets them down next to the rest of your ingredients.
"i did, but..." he trails off, resting his elbows on the counter to look at you. something unspoken hangs in the air between you two.
he doesn't miss how you glance at the ziplock bag of his leftover cookies on the counter. the bottoms of the remaining cookies look nearly black under the kitchen light.
you smile and hum thoughtfully bringing your thumb and index finger together. "i did hear from kei that the cookies were a teeny bit burnt."
inedible, akiteru remembers kei lamenting the other day. no amount of dunking the cookies in milk could save them. you're just being nice to him. you're always sweet with your words and that's what he likes about you.
he rubs the back of his neck and laughs sheepishly. "guilty."
you laugh, pulling the large mixing bowl and a measuring cup towards you.
"well," you say as you measure out the sugar. "hopefully these cookies will be a little bit better."
as you busy yourself with measuring out sugar and softening up the butter with your hands, you're surprised to still see akiteru standing in the kitchen. you shift the weight in your feet. akiteru’s presence makes your stomach flutter nervously.
"you're doing the wet ingredients, right?" he pulls the container of flour towards him on the opposite side of the kitchen island. you notice that the sleeves of his shirt are already rolled up. "i can measure out the dry ingredients, how much flour do we need?"
the two of you work to prepare your respective bowls, half dancing and singing along to the music still playing on your phone. your nervousness melts away with each bar that akiteru croons dramatically, using the spatula as a makeshift microphone.
in turn, akiteru laughs while you sway to the music as he pours in a half bag of mini chocolate chips and another half bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips into the cookie dough. to mix it up, he says cheekily but yelps when you try to smack him with a dish towel.
once the cookie dough is mixed, the two of you scoop the dough into your hands and start placing them on the pan.
"you put them that far apart from each other?" akiteru peers over your shoulder. you nearly jump at the sudden proximity.
you nod, "yeah, otherwise you'd end up with a cookie cake instead of individual cookies."
akiteru pokes at a particularly large scoop of dough. "hmm, i wouldn’t be incredibly opposed to that though."
once the cookies are in the oven and the timer is set, you and akiteru immediately reach for the mixing bowl.
"time to eat the leftover cookie dough?" akiteru asks, scraping dough onto the end of the rubber spatula and handing it to you.
"of course, a little salmonella never hurt anyone." you giggle, letting the sugary concoction melt across your tongue.
likewise, akiteru licks the remaining dough off the pad of his thumb and adds, "if anything, i'd say that we're strengthening our immune system."
as the smell of cookies fills the kitchen, you and akiteru regard each other warmly.
"i think we make a good team," akiteru says as he gently bumps your hip with his. you turn to meet his gaze and let your shoulders brush against each other.
between sneaking bites of cookie dough, trying to convince akiteru to make a giant cookie, and dancing around the kitchen, a small part of you doesn’t want this moment to end.
“a batch made in heaven,” you tease.
he leans in with a wry smile. “now that might warrant a towel smack.”
you laugh, running around the kitchen island playfully, “you wouldn’t dare!”
both of you were craving something sweet, and while the cookies hit the spot... there was something even sweeter about the time you spent together.
the cookie recipe i used recently: (oven pre-heated to 350°F, bake for 10-12 mins)
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar 2 large eggs 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 bag of mini chocolate chips
enjoy! 🍪💕
