OK maybe I've just been reading too much into things but I think...Yona might get pregnant at some point in the story.
What makes me say that? Well it all began in the Xing arc when Yona gets her period unexpectedly and starts getting swift period pains, making the others concerned. Now I'm sure all the ladies out there can relate to this situation on a very personal level. But what made this stand out to me is that although this is a Shojo manga and periods being focused on for a brief moment isn't uncommon, it's normally found more in series that have more sexually active characters. Such as Ai Ore, Black Bird, and Wolf Girl & Black Prince.
While Yona of the Dawn hasn't explicitly shown two characters having sex, Kusanagi makes it VERY apparent that there's a lot more sexual activity that isn't being shown to the readers. Such as the Red Light District being a prominent setting early on, the constant pressure on Su-Won to sire an heir with a Queen, and even the (failed) attempt by one of Tae-Jun's maids to get Hak and Yona to have sex after Yona's bath. Giving her an aphrodisiac to seduce Hak, peaches to snack on (peaches are estrogen boosters and believed to be fertility aids), and their room was set up for a married couple situation.
And this has been apparent since the beginning of the series.
Yona and Hak's relationship has finally progressed to the point where they're lovers. Their friends practically treat them like they're Husband and Wife, Hak isn't afraid to kiss her now that she's told him that she loves him in the current arc, and Yona herself has even shown more signs of wanting to get a little more intimate with him now that they're lovers.
But I believe Kusanagi plans on using Yona's pregnancy as a way to further her role in the political war raging within the palace. Because Su-Won refuses to sire an heir or take a wife, Yona and Hak having a child would not only produce a royal heir, it would also make her more favorable in the eye of the people. Since dynasties and kingdoms throughout history have viewed the fertility of their rulers as an important part of their society. If there isn't an heir to take the throne after their ruler passes away, it sets the stage for a civil war to seize the throne for themselves. Queens in particular were focused on heavily in regards to fertility and having children. Such as the real world example of King Henry and his many wives that either couldn't produce children or couldn't bare him any sons that he had divorced until he got a son.
So all the pressure Su-Won gets from the leaders around him to have a child in order to secure the throne for his family isn't without historical accuracy. It's one of the themes in Yona of the Dawn that is brought up CONSTANTLY - having children.
Su-Won is running out of time. Even if he manages to have a child with a Queen, he might not even be able to see his child grow up due to his sickness. But I believe he doesn't want to have a child because he doesn't want his child to suffer from the same disease he has. Since he's a part of the Crimson Dragon King bloodline.
While Hak has been hiding his desire for Yona since childhood and has made it clear that he has to hold back from acting on his sexual desires for the sake of being her bodyguard for most of the story. But fast forward and Hak is now Yona's lover. His love is mutual. And they've shared quite a few steamy kisses since he rescued her from the burning palace. Who's to say that they won't have sex at some point in the story? Especially when Kusanagi has been practically winking at the readers with the bedroom scene set up by one of Tae-Jun's maids that it was going to happen at some point in the story.
So to wrap up this theory: I believe at some point in this arc Yona and Hak will marry in secrecy and on their wedding night they will have sex. Especially if Yona wants to consummate their marriage before her virginity is used as a political pawn by Kei-Shuk to gain the alliance of a foreign nation. And their first time winds up being the only time that they need in order for Yona to become pregnant with their first child.
So with the latest chapter the cat is out of the bag: hak knows that soowon is sick. If he ends up confronting yona about keeping him in the dark this will put her in a tough spot bc hak knows the truth and she cant lie to him hell know shes lying but she cant tell him the truth either bc there are eyes and ears everywhere and if they find out hak knows about soowon theyll kill him. so what is yona left to do
Shes going to kiss him
Bc 1, it will shit him up and 2, it will make any spys think that theyre lovers sneaking away to spend some alone time together.
Plus itll be very incharacter for miss "it was a greeting" and "there was no water ladle" to go straight to kissing hak as a distraction
I haven't been so frustrated reading AKYONA in a while. I hate Kyseook out the bottom of my heart, he is so conniving and has been plotting this from the start. I hope they do something the dragons and Hak because this is unacceptable, using Yona for their own convenience is unforgivable. I'm getting tired of Soowon his bs. He is not innocent in this.
