‘DON’T STOP’: THE STORY OF ROCK MUSIC
I have been shooting Pulse Films’ epic & ambitious 10-part series for Sky Arts throughout Autumn 2016 and into early 2017 (There is also a U.S partner yet to be announced). Concerned with story of popular music from the blues through to the present day, the films are structured around abstract, non-linear themes - each one a different component of rock music. I have been working on ‘Sex’, ‘Truth’, ‘Death’, ‘Poetry’, ‘Sweat’, ‘Pain’ and ‘Family’. So far I have been shooting mainly in America with director Karen McGann and series director Sam Bridger, with series producer Carl Hindmarch operating out of the London office. We have been down in the Mississippi Delta, up to Memphis and Nashville, a lot of time in New York and a spell in Chicago and Indiana. I’m currently filming in London and due to fly out to LA later this month. The films are 65 mins each (for a 90′ feature slot) and shot on Alexa Mini with a mixture of Zeiss primes and Angenieux Optimo zooms. Geoffrey Sentamu DOP has also been shooting on the series and has undertaken shoots in LA and London. Needless to say, as a big music fan, I have hugely enjoyed filming with a diverse range of musicians, from emerging blues artist Cedric Burnside to legends such as Jerry Lee Lewis.

Music Videos (Appreciation Post #6) - DJ Shadow.
Today I’d like to write about DJ Shadow – ‘Nobody Speak’. I can no longer remember how I came across this song, but I do know I heard it before I saw the video. I remember thinking, “These are just terrible lyrics.” I mean, truly terrible.
This is the opening –
Picture this I’m a bag of dicks Put me to your lips I am sick I will punch a baby bear in his shit Give me lip I’mma send you to the yard,…
