Alexithyvesil: a vesility term in which many or all parts of one’s identity are affected by alexithymia. Alexithymia is a neuropsychological phenomenon characterized by significant challenges in recognizing, sourcing, and describing one's emotions.

normal: feeling emotionally numb after a stressful event

not normal: feeling emotionally numb is your standard way of being

normal: experiencing confusion around your emotions when overwhelmed, but generally being able to identify what you’re feeling

not normal: not being able to break your emotions apart at all, or only being able to identify the difference between feeling “bad” or feeling “good”

normal: occasionally having a gap between your cognitive processing of emotions and the emotions themselves (e.g head vs heart)

not normal: feeling like you only have “head” emotions, or feeling like your emotions are always muddled

normal: feeling emotions in both your mind and in your body, without having to think about it

not normal: only knowing what you’re feeling after consciously analysing what your body is doing (e.g. “oh my stomach feels weird. this must be anxiety?”)

normal: partially using emotions to make decisions, and then being able to identify what emotions led to that decision

not normal: going entirely off “gut instinct” without fully understanding why you’ve made that decision (e.g. “I don’t know what I want to do, I’ll just do what has the vibes”)

alexithymia is basically just a chronic inability to understand and process emotions. I’ve learnt that most people are able to identify their emotions unless they’re really stressed and overwhelmed. meanwhile, I barely know what counts as an emotion. anyway, I hope this post is somewhat helpful and provides answers for y’all

Yes I am aromantic and YES, I am alexithymic and yes, I am trans and I am asexual, and I am autistic.

And PLENTY of people say "What if its related". So, What if?

Would that really matter? Would that change anything?

It's my brain, it's my life, it's my experience. It's something that can't be changed, AND that doesn't need to. Something that will be there until I die.

So, to the people that say things such as "Are you sure you're not just confused?" or "That must be a symptom of..." so what if it was?

Don't try to convince ME about who I AM. Don't try to convince me that I am ruining my life by being myself, by searching my own comfort or by not having a romantic partner. It wouldn't matter if it was a "symptom" of whatever. This is my experience and I am not suffering by it and I don't need to cure myself from it.

Okay, I'm not Aro so I don't even know if I'm allowed to talk about this lol. But I'm taking a Soc class and a quote in our text is "Another term for alexithymic is aromantic." And it also says alexithymic people aren't capable of psychological/emotional intimacy...

Uh, I don't believe that's true but then again, I'm not Aro so I can't say, plus everyone's different. Any Aro or Alexithymic persons wanna comment on this?

q for my fellow adhd/autistic alexithymics:

do any of yall also get this thing where its like. you start thinking about or mentally addressing the Bad Thing—the thing(s) youve been avoiding bc emotions are confusing and dont feel like anything other than a Bad Time—and its like. instead of feeling any sort of feelings (which is a given) you just kinda collapse? like your life force is being super rapidly drained and then suddenly within 4 seconds tops you have literally no energy whatsoever and just fully collapse mentally and physically.

im just curious if thats a common experience with the no feelings thing. like whats up with that. and if so does anyone know how to cope when thats the only go-to for bad emotions
