I’ve been making 768px and 1024px walls without scaling them down to 512px and haven’t had any issues. ��

Newer computers don’t have issues but ones on lower graphic cards or inbuilt ones will get a missing texture issue. Always best to scale it down though.

Is it a bit like building a set with more depth of field?

I am starting to think that everyone is really overthinking this. XD Let’s start from the start and see if I can explain this.

When someone sits down and writes their machinima they think “I need a hospital” or school or coffee shop or restaurant or dance school or elven village or a TV news station or a police station or a recreation of Mr Hoopers Store from Sesame Street. That last one I might have made up but you never know. Every machinimator needs house and community lots to film in. There is really nothing special about them. A coffee shop is a coffee shop. 

Scripts look a lot like this:

No one has planned out that kids room in any detail. It is just a kids room with kid stuff in it. 

The buildings that I use for my sets include a school and hospital built by RomerJon, so many things from Peacemaker, stuff I have built, default EA lots (the horror), and stuff I have downloaded from the gallery. I download some of the craziest things because I think “that would make an awesome machinima set” and at the time I have no idea what I am going to use it for (I do the same thing with custom content and Peacemaker gave me no end of crap for having a moldy bread prop in my game). I have two versions of Newcrest for Super Llama Man. One is all residential lots, the other community lots. One of the episodes of SLM had him being followed throughout the day to see what he does all day. I needed a coffee shop, a school, a record store, and a grocery store and I think a library. It’s been a while.

I am going somewhere with this, I promise. If I had to build all that on my own I would have never gotten to filming anything. There would have been one decent building and everything else would have looked like crap because I would have gotten bored building because, quite honestly, I don’t like building. My landscaping sucks (it’s getting better. I’ve progressed beyond a tree and a rock) and I hate doing it. It is so much easier for me to try and convince Peacemaker to build something for me (I fail 99.9% of the time) or download something that someone else has made. 

The only real requirement is that rooms are big enough to film in. We’ve all tried to take a picture in a small bathroom and struggled. Imagine trying to film in a room that size. It’s not happening unless you know some magic voodoo. Everything else that is “needed” is up to the person making the machinima because they know what rooms they need for their project. 

This is where we are wanting to know if builders would be interested in getting involved to some extent. Ideas that we (meaning SimsFilmFest) have range from promoting lots that people have made that could be sued for machinima to compiling a list of builders that would be willing to help people out building what they need. This would honestly mean the difference between having a landscaped lot for some people or having more than a box to film in or even an extra item or two in a room outside of a couch, coffee table, and lamp.
