Beetle birds/Varojaks/Vitrotects
The forest butcher, an apex predator of the tube tree forest and relative of the lolligo. Forest butchers are ambush predators that rely heavily on the tube trees for cover. Once a butcher is close enough to prey it will burst out from it cover pinning its prey with it strong front arms. The butcher then swings its large top teeth down like a axe, usually to the neck and head area. It’s important that the ambush is timed right because the butcher can only run at full speed for a few seconds.
Forest butcher see their smaller cousins, the lolligo as food. Because of this lolligo settlements in the area have heavy defenses specialized for keeping butchers out. It normally works as butchers don’t like going after prey that’s hard to get to. Lolligo settlements used to just walls to keep the butchers out and it did for a very long time. That is until the butchers learned how to climb said walls.
In an old lolligo folktale from the lolligo’s version of the medieval it was said that the forest butcher were lolligo that got turned into beasts for the crime of being a cannibal.
We are so back.
Irjai the small birds of Tsyprucee
Irjai make up a diverse clade of small flying hexapods that help disperse seeds and control small insect populations. They are found everywhere in Tsyprucee and come in a variety of colors, patterns and shapes. Like all “birds” they are covered in fur like filaments instead of feathers and their wings are made of skin instead of feathers like pterosaurs. Unique to this clade are the many kinds of tails the Irjai have often being long and covered in stiffer fur filliments and striking patterns. Their teeth are beak like and covered by the lips and while small can result in a nasty bite.
Above are some doodles. The first one is to show their size compared to Wolfmen. The glove is not needed to handle irjai but it helps to not get pooped on or bit. The next ilistration is a example of the beak like teeth and the last one is a Irjai on a tall grass or reed.
Wolfmen tend to view Irjai as an occasional source of food or as a pest in farms. They are usually eaten whole as an occasional delicacy prepared like a rotisserie chicken. In more urban areas more colorful species are kept as pets. Recently there has been a rise in popularity of pet Irjai as a decorative pet. This trend originated in the Zitt conglomerate.
You'd think more people would notice the inherent problem with an alien species where each member produces only one offspring in its life, but I've seen people overlook this multiple times.
Look at this absolutely stunning cosmic tail 💙
