Alien: Covenant and The Kiss

Some time ago @muthur9000 noticed that David and Walter’s kiss in Alien: Covenant was similar to The Kiss, a photo taken by Joe Peter Witkin:

“In Alien: Covenant David and Walter share a kiss, it's interesting that their kiss mirrors this piece of morbid art. Witkin’s work reveals the things that society did not want to show, he wanted to show death as a natural part of life, a process that is inevitable and unexplainable. That's something Meredith Vickers says in Prometheus as well, "a king has his reign and then he dies, it's inevitable" and I'm Blade Runner Roy Batty kisses Eldon Tyrell before killing him. It's the kiss of death”

Today I was reading again my copy of David’s drawings book, and I was very surprised to see something I hadn’t noticed before: a drawing of two dead Engineers tied together in the act of kissing. I immediately thought about The Kiss of Witkin. In both David’s and Witkin’s works we see two “dead” bodies kissing. In both of these representations the subjects’ body has been sort of ripped off. And the pose too is very similar.

So, @muthur9000 was right!

There’s a connection of some sort between all these kisses, and probably the connection is the “kiss of Death” theme too. In fact, David kisses Walter to approach him and to stab him all of a sudden, “killing” him in the process.
