combine Eclipse not having a problem with hybrids and Black Arms seemingly assimilating DNA from other species:

perhaps Black Arms don't even see Shadow or the Dark Arms as hybrids; it's just an extension of what they're already doing (horizontal gene transfer)

the Dark Arms were referred to as the new, stronger generation of the Black Arms, never hybrids

so by Earth's standards, Shadow is a hybrid; by Black Arms' standards, he is not

Extraterrestrial Tin Cans

Connor and Nines have been captured by Cyberlife and find their only way out to be a rather sketchy looking portal. Not wanting to fall back into their captors hands they go through it, finding themselves in a world just like their own but a step to the left. In a world devoid of androids, Injured and sticking out like a sore thumb, they need to figure out what to do. With the supplies they need rarer than ever and the people they love never having met them, can they find a way to return home, or will they get caught by this world's government and torn to pieces?

Gavin Reed is not prepared to deal with two strange aliens harassing him. What the heck is he supposed to do in this situation? He did not sign up for this!

(I.E. Gavin thinks that the RKs are aliens and doesn't know what to do about it, the RKs want to get home but are also worried about their humans in this world, and none of them are expecting the differences and similarities between them.)

Things I want to add to my Sinestro adopts Harry Potter Fanfiction

-Guy Gardner knows that dragons exist due to him getting drunk one night and asking his ring where the nearest dragon-like being is so he could ride it.

-Harry having to ring call Sinestro on the first night at Hogwarts to have him send spices via lantern because Earth food is so bland. (Harry grew up on Qward eating Korugarian dishes that commonly have spice to it.)

-The next day being mortified that his classmates are still drinking milk even past infancy.

-Hermione becoming pen pals with Dr Crane because she wanted to understand her new friend’s motivations. Later on becoming his protege.

-Guy Gardner being summoned to the headmasters office because Harry was in trouble for fighting. (You know how that turns out.)

-Arkillo asks Harry if he (Draco) is ill. (Some aliens think that some humans are sick because how pale they are, paired with the blond hair doesn’t help him in this case.)

-Hal, Guy, Stewart, and Kilowog sneak onto Hogwarts to watch a Quidditch game. The former three having to hold Kilowog back because, ‘the blond human harmed the child!’ (Lockhart removing Harry’s bones.)

-Harry attempts to learn his friends language in case his ring dies and it doesn’t translate anymore. Accidentally learns French Canadian instead.

-Harry calling Snape a Korugarian insult after he berated him. When questioned Harry lies and says that it is a phrase used on Qward to your instructors as a declaration of acknowledgement of their skill and a promise to do better. A quarter of Hogwarts now says it to Snape during class.

-Harry sneaking a yellow lantern ring onto Earth because he learned about Boggorts and honestly having a corps member that can change to the persons fear is a formidable ally.

And my personal favorite:

-Harry abuses Hogwart’s owl, cat, or toad rule by borrowing Dex-Start from Atrocicus to have him throw up burning hairballs on Umbridge’s desk. When she leaves the room in surprise Dex-Starr takes over and lectures the class on how to use your enemies anger to your advantage.

I’m obsessed with Mass Effect Andromeda again (Hello, Jaal and Evfra <3) and while I was failing at writing a one-shot, I had a thought.

In the ME universe, Humans are incredibly non-reactive. Like, they are really in control of their emotions to the point of underreacting. Some of this can be attributed to the military focus, but even humans on the Citadel are very meh when it comes to reactions.

I have a theory: Humans were judged so much for being emotional to the point of being compared to children by Turians, Salarians and Asari (all civilizations that have very strict social hierarchies) that they stopped being expressive. At least in mixed company.

I’m sure there’s still crazy social media platforms that only humans know about where everyone acts like an idiot, but it’s generally agreed that there’s a certain way humans are supposed to act around non-humans.

My point is: There comes a point in  Andromeda when humans realize they can drop these stupid rules they come up with to “fit in” with the other races, and the Angara have no clue what hits them.

If you do a Google search for ‘characteristics of civilizations,’ you will see a notable lack of agreement. And this is among English-speaking humans. How divergent would it be for actual aliens?

There’s lots of delicious possibility for interspecies conflict (and worldbuilding!) here. Maybe some societies believe that if you don’t have a stratified class/social structure, you aren’t yet truly civilized, whereas others think you have to move past that kind of rigid hierarchy - and how do they find a middle ground to accept each other?
