Really, really, really wanted to draw something with the “Vessel Can’t Speak” concept, so I tried making a little modern AU comic about Quirrel and a grown-up Knight’s everyday life.

Note: All sign language shown here is Chinese Sign Language (CSL)! It most likely won’t apply to your country’s sign language system— please don’t treat this comic as a tutorial!

i just realized that ive never really delved into my torchbearer is mute headcannon ive just mentioned it in passing so here's my thoughts about that

During one of the earliest cycles, the bishops cut torches tongue out so he couldn't start a rebellion. Obviously that didn't work

He writes notes to Clancy and tries teaching them sign language. Every cycle Clancy seems to retain the information despite not knowing where it came from

Torches projection can talk, a constant reminder that he's not actually there during the SAI period

Possibly during the end of one of the later cycles (maybe the current one) nova cuts off torches hands so he can't communicate to future clancys (it's a little dark idk if i can commit to that 😭)

He constantly signs cat to Clancy, much to his annoyance

Twin Silence AU:

An AU where both Marinette & Chloe are mutes who cannot speak. 

These two girls grew up together due to a shared support group for not being able to speak when they were kids. 

They ARE friends, but they bicker and argue regularly. Which is quite comical since both can’t talk and have to either act out, sign, or write their grievances at each other. Usually, Chloe provokes Marinette (with Mari doing similar a few times.) Marinette would use sign language to mock her knowing Chloe is not the best with it which also gets Chloe mad. It usually ends with comical fighting that isn’t as serious.

Marinette uses sign language and charades to express herself. If she gets flustered she has a habit to sign fast and frantically, making it hard for people to tell what she’s saying at times. She’s not good with text to speech so she goes with sign language and writing, but when flustered it ends up nearly impossible to read.

Chloe uses her phone's text to speech function to talk. She types fast, but her phone tends to sometimes auto-correct into words or sentences she doesn’t mean to write. This sometimes leads to her sentences to be funny and with her flustered and trying to correct the sentences. She can use sign language, but isn’t really good at it.

In this AU, Marinette gets the Cat Miraculous and Chloe gets the Ladybug, when they transform they get futuristic helmets that gives the girls digital expressions on their faces leading to very expressive faces. When talking to people, they either express or gesture to civilians or use their helmets' virtual text to show text to citizens. 

They do work together well, but also have very comical spats while fighting crime. Usually arguing in silence while others look at them with slight amusement.

Yan Mute, who is weirdly quiet. Only nodding in greeting and going back to work. You learn his name, not from himself but from another coworker. Dimitri. Oh, and he's mute!

Yan Mute, who, after you kept bringing him coffee every morning and a little treat (hoping he'll open up and actually talk to you), starts sticking to you like a barnacle

Yan Mute, who sits next to you during every meeting, stands next to you during every break, even walks you home (if you walk home, if you don't, he'll try to carpool)

Yan Mute, who quickly becomes a regular in your life. Texting, chatting (which consists of you talking and him writing his responses) and always touching you as much as he can

Yan Mute, who just can't help himself but touch you every day at least 50 times! You're the only one who actually tried to get to know him and not treated him as just some annoyance

Yan Mute, who holds your hand and plays with your fingers whenever he's overwhelmed

Yan Mute, who will cry if you tell him to loosen his hold (it's practically a death sentence for him)

Yan Mute, who if you learn sign language, will marry you on the spot (not like he wouldn't anyway. You could give him a piece of paper and he'd be rushing to the nearest church.)

Yan Mute, who practically melts if you kiss him. Your lips are definitely his favourite part of you

Yan Mute, who, when jealous, gets pouty and clingy. He's an insecure guy, so he always thinks that you'll figure out that you're too good for him and leave him. So the sight of you being affectionate (aka polite) with someone makes him want to cling to you like a whiny puppy

Yan Mute, who sighs "I love you" every time he can because no one else in your department knows sign

Yan Mute, who wants kids. Wants to start a family where he would be loved. Where you and him would be together forever.

Yan Mute, who has you talk to everyone if you're together since it's both the most reasonable thing and because he suffers from horrible anxiety

Yan Mute, who doesn't really care if he's the little or big spoon. He loves holding you and loves you holding him just as much

Yan Mute, who though doesn't have a voice, will make sure you know just how much he loves you <3
