Hypocrisy - Abducted
I’ve recently been getting into Hypocrisy just by randomly selecting their albums from other peoples reviews and this one also really surprised me! But for a different reason then arrival.
Sometimes, after listening to one album from a band, I’ll admit, I’ll be like “oh I get it. Like I get their sound” and after arrival I thought “oh okay they’re hyper melodic and super cool sci fi death metal but not too heavy.” When I started abduction though I could tell this was a different era for the band.
The vocals are much more guttural and growling then the previous almost power metal black metal and death metal esc melodic screaming of the arrival. In this one it’s much more of a traditional death metal sound. In addition the guitars are much more chugging and heavy. Spiraling across the fret board less and more blazing these intense melodic riffs that almost evoke a hardcore sound at times. The bass is still extremely well performed and the drums are perfectly timed and heavy while not taking too much away from the more melodic vocals and melodic guitar parts.
Overall! Definitely glad I’m getting into hypocrisy! There’s a lot to love on the arrival and abduction and I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get more into the melodic aspect of death metal.
