wow YES please. alternatively, what if delphine worked in the forensics department?
I'm not sure that Delphine, trained as an immunologist, would be qualified to be in forensics. But I won't lie that my brain is giving me snatches of Delphine-Beth convos. XD
"You are--you are so amazing," Delphine said quietly and Beth wasn't sure if that was the alcohol talking.
"I mean--you are so brave and, and so smart and you go around solving people's problems and protecting them. I could never--never do that."
Beth smiled into her beer. "Maybe it was all chance. Who says I couldn't have been a housewife or born on the other side of the world or even--" She glanced at Delphine. "--a scientist like you."
Delphine sat for a moment stone-faced, then laughed. "Do any of those possibilities appeal to you?"
Beth twirled the bottle in her hands so that the liquid swirled inside. "I could see myself settling into the circumstances. It would be about making the most out of what you're given. You play the cards you're dealt."
Delphine hummed. "I have to admit I find it hard to picture myself a housewife. Or Canadian."
"Not even French Canadian?" Beth fired back, letting the beer talk.
Delphine giggled. "Oh, right. What am I doing here in the English-speaking part?"
"Yeah, what are you doing here?" Beth asked.
Delphine looked into her eyes. "Trying to find out why you're so sad."
They stared at each other and then Beth shook her head. "You've had too much. You better crash on my couch tonight. You're in no shape to drive."
"No no no no," Delphine murmured. "I can drive."
"That's what they all say," Beth said. "I should know."
Delphine frowned. "It is okay?"
"Yeah. I'll grab some sheets and extra pillows. Hang tight. I'll be back."
