“Patriarchy, the System: An It, Not a He, a Them, or an Us”: Allan G. Johnson
This text presented how we’re all in a patriarchy of sorts, and that when things happen, it’s not an individual’s fault. However, men are blamed for the patriarchy by some women. We need to see past the people, we need to overview the entirety of what we’re looking at and not just target someone so we can blame them. Unfortunately this isn’t the case as we all participate in the patriarchy involuntarily. The way we treat each other and the symbols that are in humanity, although not taught and only learned, put men to be as if they’re greater than women. Such as having a man as a role model due to the saying “be a man” and having women used as an insult. Nevertheless, we should all treat each other as equal, using phenomenal people as role models, not insulting each using other people, or not insulting each other at all. We should treat each other with the utmost respect

The ease of not being aware of privilege is an aspect of privilege itself, what some call “the luxury of obliviousness.”… as James Baldwin put it, “To be white in America means not having to think about it.” We could say the same thing about maleness or any other basis for privilege. So strong is the sense of entitlement behind this luxury that males, whites, and others can feel put upon in the face of even the mildest invitation to pay attention to issues of privilege. “We shouldn’t have to look at this stuff,” they seem to say. “It isn’t fair.”
