Hi! How do you house beep? Are peafowls able to stay indoors for long periods of time? I always imagined that might be hard!
Beep is actually totally housed indoors for now! She has her own bedroom. It is… not hard, exactly, but it does require an amount of commitment to her and her needs that most people are not equipped to handle. For me, I don’t have children (they are not my thing at all) so I have basically all of the time a child would take to dedicate to Beep.
She will eventually relocate to an outdoor coop during her laying season (a 3-4 month space between april and august) for her safety, but that’s a bit away (they don’t usually start until 3 years old, and she’s not even 2 yet). Til then, she’s an indoor bird!
All that being said, I would in no way recommend peafowl as indoor pets to anyone ever. Beep is a special circumstance that we got into knowing full well exactly what we were getting into, and with previous experience under our belts on keeping/raising peafowl for years prior. She was hatched here and raised by me personally with imprinting done over her first few months of life while I was home 24/7 with an injury and nothing to do but train her. They are most definitely NOT house pets.
