It’s not often that the Inspector visits graveyards. He has an irrational fear of being buried alive, no doubt the remnants of another suppressed memory he tends to ignore, for the most part. But Penny insists on visiting her mother so she can bring flowers, and Gadget isn’t going to let her wander a graveyard alone.
The walk to her grave is very short, but when Penny does tug Gadget expectantly towards it, he holds her back slightly, warily eyeing the cloaked figure standing behind a tree as he walks ahead of her, hand holding hers so he knows she’s safe.
“...Oh, excuse me, you must be the gravekeeper, right? Would you mind if Penny visited with her mother privately? It’s her mother’s birthday. She’s very emotional about it.”
Penny tugs her hand from Uncle Gadget’s with a huff. “Uncle, I can handle myself! I’m not being ‘emotional’, my mother is just dead!” She storms off to the grave cradling the flowers, leaving Gadget behind with the cloaked individual.
“...I’m not good with children.” Gadget sighs, sagging.
