Poe looked up from the book he held in his lap as he sat on the bench outside of his home when he heard the footfalls of a stranger. Now, because of what he did, he could afford to live the way he always wanted to, and the way Sissy deserved.

Seventeen seconds. That is how long it took for the deadling to realise a 'visitor' had entered her hall. Their presence called out to her, wailing and horrific, like perturbed souls that could never find rest. Silent footsteps carried her towards the being. Shoulders set back and chin high, she greeted them with a smile that told only too well of her wish to eviscerate them for disturbing her peace.
