Here’s my personal Day 1! 😁

Day 1: Bravery/ Shore Leave

He couldn’t do it.

He couldn’t take that one last goddamn step.

July 7th, 2555. The Marathon-Class cruiser UNSC To The Right had docked at Cairo Orbital Defense Platform over Earth.

Alpha 9 had been given a week of shore leave. But Lance Corporal Jake Dawn, callsign Rookie, could not take that final step.

He was too used to military life. The order. The precision. Everything.

He couldn’t even remember the last time he’d had shore leave.

He wasn’t scared of it.

He wasn’t.

He wasn’t.

He could take leave any time he wanted.

His gloved fists clenched. Who was he kidding? He was terrified of it.

He had no idea how he’d do it. He just couldn’t.

“Hey, Rookie! You coming?”

Buck.

Jake smiled slowly, feeling his heart rate slow down and his tension ease. He felt at ease with his squad.

The ODST’s boots crossed the threshold of the pelican.

He’d just commited an act of bravery.
