Friend Computer, how should I proceed when I encounter two traitors fighting each other? On one hand, I do wish to fight them and confirm termination, but on the other, should I choose to attack one at a time, I do not wish to curry favor with their foul secret societies, and it is possible they could terminate each other and provide entertainment to us loyal citizens.

That is certainly a difficult situation. I would recommend gathering evidence against them both, possibly record the situation, and submit a report to Internal Security. Fighting them yourself would put you in direct and perhaps unnecessary danger, but if you do manage to confirm termination of both traitors, you would be rewarded greatly.

(GM note: You're screwed. If you don't fight them and go the route of following this advice, IntSec probably won't do anything. If you attack them and only manage to terminate one, you'll be suspicious as being part of the other's secret society. Managing to terminate both (unlikely) would be the best outcome, but your fellow citizens could accuse you of being part of a third secret society.)

I may enjoy the Paranoia rpg quite a bit... if my writings/ drawings have anything to say about it. Troubleshooters are so fun to draw.... and terminate.

Vault 1 is really Alpha Complex

Paranoia is a humorous dystopian roleplaying game that came out, sublimely, in 1984. You live in a futuristic city called Alpha Complex that is ruled by The Computer. The Computer is your friend. Information is regulated by color-coded security clearances. Ostensibly, you are a Troubleshooter, an enforcer for The Computer (who is your friend), solving problems and neutralizing threats to Alpha Complex’s security.

It gets more complicated. Every character is a member of a secret society that is in some way trying to subvert the rule of The Computer (which is rude, because The Computer is your friend). This makes your character a threat to the security that you’re trying to protect. Worse, everyone else in the party likely belongs to a separate secret society, with their own set of goals. Unlike most RPGs, theft and murder among the party are inevitable in Paranoia. Which is OK, because your character is part of a six-pack of clones, so a little death isn’t something to be concerned about.

The Computer is to be obeyed at all times, even if its orders are incomprehensible, arbitrary or outright deadly. Further, demonstrating knowledge of the rules of the game is forbidden (most of the books in the box set are above your security clearance, Troubleshooter).

It’s all very funny, competitive and gruesome, clearly anticipating the post-apocalyptic black humor of the Fallout series.

Couple thoughts on the art work. James Holloway does all of it, which is impressive, because there is a ton of it. I don’t usually dig Holloway’s D&D art (I couldn’t tell you why, exactly, but it has something to do with his line work), but I love his Paranoia work. He’s better suited for dystopias, I guess. Anyway, my favorite thing about the box set is how the covers are all watching each other, a nice visual trick that plays into the game’s themes.

Alpha Complex Meteorology Department.

When the outfit restrictions were loosened, citizens needed motivation to actually buy new clothes. Hence the formation of the Meteorology Department.

Each morning at 7:00, a weather broadcast is played over every vidshow channel. Citizens who are not wearing appropriate clothing are treated accordingly (i.e. Chased by department members wielding spray bottles on a 'rainy' day.)

Oh great Friend Computer, where do I go to find other Troubleshooters to complete missions with? Alas, I was recently promoted to Red and only know INFAREDs :/

Also, pardon me for asking, but why are you posting clearly non-RED-clearance papers on a RED-clearance blog? As a loyal citizen, u avoided reading them, but I still am curious.

There are several ways to find a Troubleshooter team! For example, looking for online spaces (There is a subreddit, and paranoia-live.net is being revived as well).

The higher clearance papers being posted was due to traitor sabotage. We are working on locating and apprehending the traitor.

Alpha Complex Official Gender Post

Most citizens are intersex. If clone genetics are messed up enough to allow for mutant superpowers, it makes total sense for at least the majority of the population to be intersex.

Alpha Complex takes pride in having gender being unguessable. A citizen is assigned a gender at decantation, and paperwork is always accessible to formally change it. Assigned gender has nothing to do with biological sex. A citizen can be almost entirely biologically male and be assigned female at decantation. All citizens are placed on standardized hormone suppressants as soon as it is medically safe to do so, to prevent unwanted dysphoria. Prescriptions related to hormones and gender can be changed easily, and citizens are encouraged to speak to a medical professional to discuss what would work best for them.

Being intersex is entirely normal in Alpha Complex. Gender nonconformity is not treason. Being Transgender, Genderfluid, Nonbinary, or any gender identity different from what was assigned at decantation is not treason.
