sydney: unlabeled/doesn't think about it much

natalie: bisexual!!! and this is canon too!!! (i am a very lowkey sydney x natalie shipper. very very lowkey)

richie: bisexual (i can see him with fak, mikey, and jess at different points)

marcus: gay. i know there was that whole thing with syd, but like. he's gay to me

tina: straight, but she's like the world's best ally. she's def in her local pflag chapter

ebraheim: straight, and he would have a hard time grasping a lot of the newer terms (he'd still try though, and tina would probably be the one to explain it all)

neil geoff fak: pansexual. at first he has no idea what that is but when he finds out about he's like. yup that's me!

There is something about them — be it their friendship, teamwork, romantic chemistry, antagonistic passion, respect for one another, soulmate connection— whatever it is, you can’t help but root for them to be together.

An Ode to Math

Fuck chaos and peace.

That weird little man looks into her eyes and cops to being scared of math and it's one of the ways he tells her from across the room what she means to him.

And it's funny because simple arithmetic does in fact elude him, but also, you know who you doing math with? You do math with someone with whom you're trying to solve a problem. You do math together when you're building something together. Math is taxes and insurance policies and interest rates and IRA contributions and "do not buy furniture and small appliances on time you idiot."

He could never share "math" with Claire bc their relationship has the substance of wet Kleenex. He's Claire's manic pixie dream boy and she likes him helpless and dependent and disturbed. She would never be sympathetically horrified by how dense he is and yet tirelessly trying to explain it to him gently. She would never hire his sister to take it off his plate so he can do other things only Carmy can do. Vampira prefers him bleeding. He's not interesting to her when he's healthy and whole.

Math, especially for Carmy, speaks to struggle and puzzle and plan. His willingness to engage with "math" despite his limitations speaks to long-term investment in his relationship with his family generally and Sydney specifically, and his willingness to genuinely cooperate with her in construction of "very real things," as he calls them.

Helping him with his math that regularly beats his ass into the ground is one of the ways Sydney says I love you to Carmy. (This is also one of the ways his Uncle Computer looks out for his knucklehead nephew.)

Carmy knows this (about both of them), and it means the world to him.
