Hi anon! While not the best when it comes to alpha headcanons (I’m very set in my ways with writing them hehe) I think the best thing possible to do in this circumstance is pull from comparison.
Omega drops are a very prevalent thing in omegaverse, typically occurring when omegas are rejected, when they’re not given enough attention in moments of need (distress, heats, pregnancies, etc.), or when they’re suddenly experiencing a high amount of stress. It can be a long drawn out process or something that happens fast and instantaneously. This can lead to the omega literally dropping, being in a fuzzy, hazy state with even higher levels of distress, comas or catatonic like states.
Drawing from this, we can assume alphas would likey follow a similar pathway to having an alpha drop. Alphas are needy too, just as instinctually driven as omegas if not a little more or less depending on specific traits and general personality. Alpha drops, in my opinion, would likely occur in similar circumstances as omegas would. Rejection, cold and quick, not just an “I’m sorry, alpha, maybe not this time,” style rejection, but something mean and instantly disheartening. Some alphas can probably manage their ruts alone like omegas can their heats, but in circumstances of an alpha who may be unwell, being uncared for may lead to a drop, same as if this alpha typically has an omega (mate or just rut/heat partner) who just will not take care of them like they need. I think distress it’s a little harder of an idea to think of when it comes to alphas as usually they’re seen as the tough, strong dynamic who is strong willed and minded, but they no doubt feel distress, perhaps it may not in the same way, but I assume alphas could also drop in the circumstances of losing a mate, losing a pup, losing a parent, being treated poorly (physically or mentally) so on so forth.
Perhaps Kitty Mod has some more thoughts and ideas on it, but truthfully I think Alpha and Omega drops have a lot for similarities. Switching some key omega components with some key alpha components (as in like certain needs they specifically have based off of their subgender/presentation/dynamic) will probably lead to the answers you need!!
