This has been sitting in my drafts and rotting for MONTHS, but I finally started working on it yesterday, and I finally finished it today, so I figured I'd put it here!
Overall rambling under the cut.
If I haven't changed my profile picture to something other than the picture I drew of TSC that one time, then you should be able to see it representing my user. I drew that profile image(though it wasn't initially intended to be one) a WHILE ago, and I started this drawing of Red pretty soon after, but ah... Yeah, I didn't even finish the lineart part of things before I left it to rot. Obviously it's finished by now, but I was seriously STRUGGLING with trying to figure out how to have Red's arms around Rueben here.
The thing that got me finally able to FINISH the dang thing was partially from the advice from someone on Tumblr, and partially from trying a new approach. Instead of continuing to struggle with the arms, I opted to switch to Rueben's lines instead. And wouldn't you know it! That helped me figure out how Red should hold him! Who could've guessed!
I also got to figure out a brush to try for the hair, so that was fun! Genuinely! The new brush was way quicker than the brush I initially tried to start with. 10/10, will use again when I need to draw hair.
The bubbles for the background were a sort of last-minute addition. It felt too plain with just the color fade, and bubbles felt like they fit the lighthearted vibe I was going for. Now it has me already considering other options for if I ever get around to drawing the rest of the Color Gang.
The patterns I gave the pig were similarly last-minute, at least in that I only decided they would be there as I started to color Rueben in. I felt like a flat color would be too plain, and I figured since real pigs can have similar patterns, it would work at least well enough. On a similar note, the overall squareness of Rueben was chosen because of him being a Minecraft pig, and it also helped me out in terms of not needing to snag a reference for him, which I did not feel like doing.
Overall, I enjoyed actually getting around to finishing this! I probably could have not delayed it for as long as I did, but at least it got finished at all.
When my friend from home came to visit me recently she was like "Daniela why are all your clothes dark coats tho" and it was the biggest callout of my fucking life
