if they had succeeded, then the queen would've been delivered to a brand new hive, one dwindling in numbers and desperate to repopulate

the queen would be worshiped, yes, treated so very well, but their say in the matters of repopulating wouldn't be respected. it's the many versus the few to the hive, and they have no kings. the human queen's pheromones are too weak to force the drones to change their tune as well
