Question: Would one say Character A “is ace” or “is an ace?”

Further musings: One would usually say Character B “is gay,” because “gay” is usually used as an adjective. Likewise bisexual, demisexual, straight, etc. But one would say Character C “is a lesbian,” because “lesbian” is usually used as a noun. Why? Inquiring minds (this one, at least) want(s) to know.
