Okay, I’m like 90000% onboard with asexual!Rey, but even if you don’t subscribe to that particular headcanon I think we can all agree that Rey is new to romance and sexuality, so I think a relationship with her would be very slow and sweet and innocent as you explore new territory and grow together.

Also, Rey really hasn’t been touched – and definitely not in an affectionate way – since she was very young, so I think she’s in a weird place where she simultaneously doesn’t like being touched and is starved for physical affection.

Like, she does not want to be touched by strangers. If she does not know you well and trust you a lot, you’d better keep your hands off of her. But once she gets attached to you – and especially after you verbally confirm that you’re into her as well – she’s all about those snuggles.

She loves holding your hand, loves hugging you, loves giving you quick kisses on your nose and forehead and cheeks. If you’re not a touchy person or don’t like PDA she definitely understands (see previous bullet point) and will back off, but she just loves being around you.

You get to take her home and show her your home planet and she thinks it’s the most beautiful place in the galaxy because it gave her you. :’)

Exploring the galaxy together because now that she’s left Jakku she wants to see everything and she wants to share it all with the people she loves. 

She doesn’t realize it, but her Force senses become attuned to your presence. She can literally sense you from half a mile away (because lbr, Rey’s raw power is at least as strong as Anakin’s, and he could feel Padme’s presence as easily as breathing) and if you’re in the same room as her she can even pick up on strong emotions from you. 

It’s a soothing thing for her, being able to feel that you’re near her. It’s a comfort, and she’ll definitely seek you out if she feels sad or scared or stressed.

She’s a very protective gf, but in an endearing way rather than a worrying way. She’s just very concerned with keeping you safe, and when the two of you are in an unfamiliar place she sticks to your side and glares at anyone who even looks like they might consider hurting you.

Dating Rey means being BFFs (Best Force Friends) with Finn, because he’s practically Rey’s family. And Poe is around so often, the four of you may as well live together. 

But also: if you ever break Rey’s heart you’re gonna be in trouble with Finn and Poe AND General Organa and, most importantly, BB-8 will not beep affectionately every time he sees you anymore. :(

But yes Rey is pure and good and would be THE BEST girlfriend I love her so much

This is probably very me-specific but one of the (many, many) reasons I loved The Last Jedi is that it has not yet taken my headcanon of ace!Rey away from me. My badass asexual Jedi girl is STILL POSSIBLE.

Yay for Jess and Poe forever! I love them so much. I realized very belatedly that Jess is actually closer to Rey’s age and Karé is probably closer to Poe’s, but by that point I’d already written half a fic featuring the two of them bantering off each other and I had a vivid mental image of Karé and Rey being unbelievably adorable together, so...that was that!

I would not necessarily think this is creepy. To me, that kind of age gap might be a little off in a casual relationship - because of the difference in life experience, etc. But in a relationship that is more serious (marriage or something equally long-term), it might be more ok - if the younger person is clearly mature enough to commit to such a relationship and understand the implications. Poe/Rey might work because Rey is not your average 19yo.

Actually, the rule is half your age plus 7. So if Poe is 32, then he can date anyone 23 or older. Finn is 24, so he's fine. Rey is not. :)

Hmm... Interesting! Thanks, guys. I like that rule. And I agree, I have seen lovely relationships with 12+ year gaps, and most of the JSPs I’ve read have been lovely. But I think it still squicks me out enough to not go there in my own writing, at least not with this particular verse. 

Anyway, ace!Rey!is!amazing! Who needs to bang bones when you’ve got machines to work on?

“I’m in love.”  

Finn startles upright in his seat as a giant textbook thunks onto the table in front of him. “Love? But—”

“Love!” Rey beams at him as she flops into the adjacent seat. “Look at this, just look, look, look!” She cracks the book open to a random page and traces the diagrams with an adoring finger. “Engineering,” she says, lingering on the word like it’s honey on her tongue. “Isn’t it beautiful? Look at it!”

I can speak only for myself, but that's too big an age gap for me. I have a very arbitrary limit that says 10 years tops, anything above is a no. Okay, MAYBE if a writer did a lot of work, but generally no (power and experience gap just makes it nah)

The age gap is part of why I don't like Rey/Poe. It's just a little TOO big. If they were 57 and 44, not such a big deal, but 19 to 32 is SUCH a huge gap, kwim? Does Jess have to be Poe's age? I've always assumed she was younger, like early 20s?

Thanks, guys! It’s unanimous: Emperor-level creepy. I’m glad you all agree, because honestly, I share the ten-year limit. Poe and Finn just barely squeak under, but even then I don’t like to linger on the age gap between them, and I feel like Finn’s life experience would have matured him beyond his actual age. 

And yeah, I usually write Jess as Jessica Henwick’s age (24 now), but in this AU, Jess has to be Poe’s age for Reasons. Rey should be 19, also for Reasons. So I’m going to have to rewrite a tiny section involving the two of them, because I wrote it before actually doing the math...

But that’s ok! Because ace!Rey said hi this afternoon, a few minutes after I posted this. And I’m excited to write that scene, so I think (hope?) it’s all good. Thanks so much for your advice!

Hi! I want to know why you think that Ace!Rey means she can't be in a relationship. Ace!Rey has to do with sexuality, not relationships. I don't understand why Ace!Rey can't work in tandem with Finnrey. Unless you're talking Aro!Rey. Food for thought. :)

I guess it’s just for the most part when I see people talking about Ace!Rey it’s always in a platonic sense but you are right of course Ace!Rey could still be in a relationship with Finn.
