DID YOU SEE WE’RE GETTING A NEW GAME?

cold hearted but I never get cold feet; even in the heat I keep ten toes down; I’m burdened with visions of the fliest soliloquies brother, why art thou killing me? I got more questions than the Sphinx or the Riddler-- think parallel, move perpendicular; lone wolf on the scenic route lost count trying to keep up with what the scene about-- one flew over the Trump’s nest, we settled for less-- less ain’t more; calling all bards and troubadours-- remain true, remain you-- culture is a precious gift. like Atlas, there is no try just lift. be swift-- hold the world like you hold your girl or your man-- apply ancient tactics to a new plan-- smooth.
“January: She’s a completely different person at the start of every year. The kind of person who when the clock strikes twelve and the tequila hits her, you can’t recognize her anymore. She’ll leave you behind like all the years before. You can’t tell if you’re hurt, or relieved.
February: He’s the mug of tea you wrap your hands around when you’re frozen to the core. For a few minutes you feel the warmth-in the bones of your fingers, on your tongue, your neck, it’s all consuming. You’re so lost in his warmth that you don’t see him leaving until he’s gone. He left the door open and the wind is like a blade ice cutting across your skin.
March: She’s covered her skin in art and you wonder if she realizes even without all those tattoos she’s a masterpiece. She;s constantly changing her appearance to avoid the crushing anxiety, to keep the darkness in her mind hidden. You want to say “I see you, I’m here” but as the snow melts into puddles so do your words.
April: She’s quiet, fragile, and subtle while you’re brash, boisterous and vivid. The two of you compliment each other perfectly-she’s clothed in sunlight and you in darkness. Your favorite sound is her laugh because you remember the time you made her cry tears to water your garden. You still haven’t forgiven yourself for being so damn selfish.
May: You see him sporadically. One weekend visit here, a party there, a dinner outing now and then, but you text him constantly. You don’t talk about much of anything, but you wonder what would happen if it was 3 AM and you both laid in the grass, staring at the stars, feeling the budding warmth of summer, and talked until the sun rose.
June: She’s the embodiment of sunshine, lighting every room she walks into. But she’s also fierce like the thunder that keeps you up at night. Her moods change as quickly as the weather, drastic storms hit when you least expect them to and you never have your damn umbrella.
July: He’s a lighthearted guy who hides his insecurities under poorly timed jokes and puns. Some days you can visibly see him lose his spark, as if all his energy has been drained in a second and he loses that light expression. He fizzles out like a sparkler and you wonder- maybe he’s just see you, maybe you could help him keep his light going.
August: You watch her thrive from afar, and you hope that as she keeps pushing ahead every day that she’ll look back and smile down at you. You pray remembers all those summer memories you shared and that they keep her soul warm as the nights grow longer. You hope that one day she’ll remember you, and come back to save you from the cold hands of autumn.
September: The beginning of new semesters, of new years was always a challenge for her. But every year she’s grown a little bit more. Her first year anxiety controlled every action and word she spoke. Her second year she allowed herself to breathe in the freshness of an autumn rain. Her third year she found friends to huddle around bonfires with and roast marshmallows. Her fourth year she learned the true meaning of heartbreak and regret. The beginning of school used to make her sick, but now she yearns for autumn’s fresh start.
October: You remember when you met him at a football game and felt an instant connection. You thought maybe this is what I’ve been waiting for, maybe this is my new beginning. But this time of tricks and mischief has never been kind to you, and like the foolish girl you are you fell for him when he never even learned your name.
November: Every time you look at him you become physically sick. He found you when you were broken, alone and starving for love. He was nothing more than a mistake; a gorgeous and charming mistake. You’ll never forget his words because they cut into you with the first winter wind every year.
December: He reminds you there’s still kind hearts in this world who care about you. Even when the snow is piling up, blocking out the sun completely, he’s there to start a fire and make you cocoa. He’s like the ghost of Christmas Present-always reminding you of he wondrous things right in front of you, but when the clock chimes again he will be gone.”
