Jaune slipped back into slumber as Pyrrha sat holding her hand. Doctor Peach entered the room shortly after, to check on the pair. She went about her work with Jaune quickly and professionally, before motioning to Pyrrha to follow her. Reluctantly, Pyrrha did as she was asked and followed the older pink haired woman into the hall.
“I won’t keep you long.” Doctor Peach informed the red-head. “I just want to hear from you how you are holding up, because from the look of you… Jaune has told you something troubling, and I’m pretty sure I know what it was.”
“Jaune said he… she died. Is that true or does he… SHE only believes, it happened?”
“To be honest, I’m not sure if it did, but from the footage of Jaune’s recovery and the statements by the rescue team… I say it was a distinct possibility.” Peach took a deep breath and let it out slowly, “But that is all conjecture. We have no definite proof, and when we do have, it is compelling but circumstantial.”
“It can because it is.” Peach placed a hand on Pyrrha’s shoulder. “I wish I could tell you more, but unless Jaune explicitly tells me I can… I’m not at liberty to divulge specifics.”
“Can you tell me if YOU believe that Jaune died?”
“To be honest, I’m not sure, but” Peach removed her hand, “I feel it a distinct possibility.”
“We don’t know, and Jaune has yet to give us any information aside from saying she died.”
“Yes, after you tell me how you are doing.”
“I’m tired, confused, worried, and a little happy…”
“Pyrrha, I want you to come to me the instant you star feeling overwhelmed. I mean that.”’ Doctor Peach spoke as she stepped aside to allow Pyrrha access back into the room. “There are going to be a lot of hurdles ahead of Jaune, and if you stay at her side… ahead of you as well. Okay?”
Pyrrha nodded, and made her way back into the room. She quickly reclaimed her chair, and once again clasped her hands about Jaune’s. She was feeling tired, but she had decided back in the corridor while looking into Jaune’s eyes during her episode… she was going to stay by her partner’s side. Pyrrha couldn’t for the life of her come up with an explanation of why Jaune was how she was now, but she knew… the woman laying before her was Jaune. Without a hint of doubt… she was Jaune.
Late afternoon was moving towards night when Nora and Ren approached Professor Goodwitch, in her office. She gave them both a raised eyebrow, but did nothing else. She could tell the pair were struggling, and she understood. They were obviously concerned about something, or more likely someone, possible more than one.
“Professor Goodwitch?” Ren spoke up as he moved towards her desk, stopping at a respectable distance. “Can we speak with you?”
“Yes, my door is always open. Please, Mr Ren, Ms Valkyrie, have a seat while I close the door to give us some privacy.” Glynda stood and move past the pair as they took seats before her desk. She closed the door softly, and without another word returned to her own chair before addressing her two students. “So…”
“IS IT TRUE?” Nora bellowed out, distress obvious in her eyes.
“You may have to be more specific, Ms Valkyrie, as there are…”
“Was that girl really Jaune?” Ren spoke up, before Nora could yell again.
“Yes, she was.” Glynda pinched the bridge of her hose, as she instantly knew this was going to be a long conversation. “And before you ask, no, we have no idea about how Jaune swapped genders.”
“But how is that possible?” Nora asked, her tone more subdued.
“We never thought it was. But Jaune’s current condition proves it is indeed a possibility.” Glynda replied, clasping her hands before her on her desk. “But the mechanism as to how it happened, or why it happened, eludes us. All we know for certain is that she is Jaune.”
“How certain?” Ren asked.
“Aura pattern analysis, retinal scans, blood typing, fingerprint analysis. It all came back as a perfect match. The only thing that didn’t was her DNA… but even then there were very strong links… for the lack of a better term. She could be considered Jaune’s twin.”
