Hello there! Sorry if this is a stupid thing to ask but do the alt prompts have to be used in order or can we choose them at random?
There is no order to the altprompts :)

I'm pretty sure I haven't seen this answered either in info posts or other asks, so:
It says on the alt prompt list that those prompts were created so that people with "squicks and triggers" can still be completionists, and in the rules it explains that alt prompts are there to use if all 4 of a given days prompts are uncomfortable/triggering. Just asking if it's still ok and will still count for completion to use an alt prompt for day that isn't triggering, but is just not sparking inspiration?
Hey,
yes that is totally okay. We might have to rewrite that section :)
Not sure if this is a dumb question, but can we use the alternative prompts for the sole reason of we don’t like a certain day’s set of prompts? Even if it’s not a trigger or squick?
Hi, yes that's fine! You can use the alternative prompts however you like.

sorry i've tried looking everywhere for an answer to this - maybe I skimmed past it, but if we chose to do an alt prompt, what is the #.
is it #altnoX or #altX
Hey,
I just checked our tagging system post :
Hi, as October draws near we get an increasing amount of asks about our Tagging System. Seeing all your questions made us question a few of
And there we used the normal tags + altprompt.
So: #whumptober2021 #noX (x = the day you use it) #promptY (y = your altprompt) #altprompt (just like that) #YourFandom (whatever that is) etc.
There might be different versions on how to do it hidden on the blog (I'm sorry if there are), but you're best adviced if you use the tagging post as reference.
Hey there! Sorry if this is a silly question but I was wondering about the alternate prompt list. When the rules say "You can exchange any prompt with these, but please make sure not to use them twice", does that mean "Don't use the SAME alt. prompt twice" or "You can only use the alt. prompt list once in the whole month"?
Hey, don't worry! It means don't use the SAME altprompt twice. You can use the whole liste of altprompts if you like :)
Hey! Can I write just the 10 alt prompts? Or do I have to use them as only replacements? :)
I mean.. If you use the altprompts for Whumptober you're technically replacing something even if you never get around to using the official list :D
If you're aiming for being a completionist you can fill 15 prompts using just the altprompts, and you would need another 16 from the other list.
Did that answer the question?
I just rechecked the FAQ and I don't think my questions are covered (but sorry if I missed something!). Because the alt prompts can be used at any time and they're not associated with a particular day, are fills for those prompts less likely to be reblogged at all, or does it just depend on when a mod happens to see one of them? Second, is there a cutoff point for being considered a completionist, like Oct. 31?
Hi,
that's right. Altprompts can be used any time during Whumptober. And if you tag them correctly (see the Tagging System post in our bio) your post is as likely to be reblogged as any other post.
And yes, officially the cut-off day is October 31st, but since the end of Whumptober is usually just as busy, we probably won't close the form (call for completionist) until the 2nd or 3rd of November (I'm in CEST).. So you have a little leeway :)
I'm having so much fun planning fills for this challenge, thanks! You've said that you're only going to monitor the tags for a few days worth of prompts at at time, so we need to get fills in on time if we want them reblogged. How does this apply to the alt prompts?
Edited:
We discussed this question further and decided to do it differently from our previous answer, so it would be easier on us to spot your posts. If you choose to replace a day with an altprompt please tag your post like you would a normal post and add "altprompt" after your prompt tags.
For instance on day 1 it could look like this: #whumptober2020, #no.1, #comfort, #altprompt, #oc, #fic
