Whumpsgiving #4: Volunteer

Inspired by this prompt by @whump-galaxy and this prompt by @whumpadventureprompts

CW: Vivisection mention/prep, human experimentation mention

  The team were dragged into the corridor lined with holding cells, fighting tooth and nail the whole time until Leader was shoved in front of them and forced to their knees. The team stopped as they saw their Leader dragged forward and Whumper came into view facing them.  

  “Look at you all together. You’ve caused me so much trouble over the last six months, you know. You think you can just get away with stealing from me? No, no, no.”

  Teammate One glared at Whumper. “Don’t you fucking touch us. People deserve to know who’s been kidnapping people and experimenting on them, you sick fuck!”

  Whumper turned to Teammate One. “Sick? That’s what you think of me? No, no, no, darling — I’m not sick. I’m a visionary. I’m the only one in this godforsaken town who can see what the human form can truly do… and I’m not going to stop until I unlock it.”

  “And it doesn’t matter how many people you cut open and kill to get to that goal, right?” Teammate One spat. Whumper simply smiled. “I think you’ll find you can help me reduce that number. I know that you all have a… history with my type of work, so I’ll ask nicely, once. Tell me what you know, because I know you know something. And if you don’t, I’ll just have to rip it out of you, won’t I?”

  Leader snarled at Whumper. “We’re not telling you shit. And if you lay a hand on my Team it’ll be you getting cut open next, you hear me?”

  Whumper’s smile didn’t falter as they turned to Leader. “Fabulous. Then I’ll start with you.”

  Whumper turned and disappeared into a room at the end of the corridor. The guards holding Leader followed, hauling them up and through the door, ignoring their struggles and their Teammates’ protests. The Team were thrown into a cell, cramped, cold and damp, as Leader disappeared into Whumper’s lab. Time passed, with the Team yelling and fighting and pounding at the bars but nothing but silence in response. After a while, their protests slowed and they sat close, trying not to worry about Leader and focus on formulating a plan. See, what Whumper didn’t know was that the Team didn’t just have information that proved their theory — a handful of them including Leader had the exact genetic makeup that gave them the ability Whumper was trying to recreate. So Team had to prioritise keeping this from Whumper at all costs, no matter what happened.

  Then the screaming started.

  Every single Teammate’s head snapped up at the sound coming from behind the door. Leader. Teammate One went back to shouting protests with renewed vigour, their voice reverberating off the walls but doing nothing to drown out the sound of Leader’s agony.

  Hours later, the screams faltered, then stopped completely. Team looked at each other fearfully. It could mean Whumper had stopped. It could also mean…. the Teammates shivered.

  They sat there in anxious silence for what felt like days, until suddenly a number of guards came in and unlocked the door, cuffing the Team but leading them outside the compound to a waiting car with blacked out windows. Teammate One paused, looking at a guard. “What’s going on? Where’s Leader?”

  The guard smirked. “Leader made a deal. You’re free to go.”

  The Team resisted immediately, fighting to get back inside to where Leader was still held, but the guards outnumbered them three to one, and soon they had been stuffed into the car and were being driven away, tears streaming down their faces as they were brought closer to home but ever further away from Leader.

  Meanwhile, in Whumper’s lab, Leader glowered at Whumper as they strapped them down to the table with gloved hands, blood still dripping sluggishly from their bruised and broken form. Whumper merely smiled back. “Now, now, Leader, there’s no need for that. Your Team is safe, after all. This should be a small price to pay for their freedom.” They murmured as they drew a large Y-shape in sharpie over Leader’s bare chest. “You’re actually my first willing test subject. I’m thankful of you for… volunteering.”

For bragging rights, may I present a complete listing in posting order of all of my Whumptober 2025 fics!

14 fics, totalling 59,040 words (damn it, so close to 60k!), and one super exhausted fic writer...

Note: All prompt days and corresponding prompts used are listed in the beginning notes of each fic. Whump in these works may be either physical or emotional (or both!), and the "Whumpage" scale is just a bit of silly fun, based purely on my own opinion (and what I can actually remember of each fic!)

Kindle (Gen/Pre, 4.6k, Loki whump, 8/10 whumpage)

A malfunctioning timedoor leaves Loki abandoned on an unknown planet in a hostile environment, with no way for the TVA to easily find him. The search will take time, but time is fast running out...

Tasuke o yobu (Gen/Pre, 3.3k, Mobius whump, 3/10 whumpage)

(TMNT crossover) A powerful entity has been interfering with Raph’s meditation, and this time, he can’t block it out. But it seems all this being wants is to ensure that a certain someone gets the urgent help they require…

Ensnared (Gen/Pre, 5.5k, Both whump, 6/10 whumpage)

Waking up caught in a mysterious, constrictive space, Loki and Mobius are subjected to bouts of intense and irrational fear... though this proves to be the lesser problem in their worsening predicament.

In Safe Hands (Gen/Pre, 3.7k, Loki whump, 7/10 whumpage)

After Loki spontaneously reappears at the TVA, Mobius sits at his bedside waiting for him to awaken when he notices something that holds horrifying implications.

Just a Little Longer (Romance, 1.6k, Both whump, 8/10 whumpage)

Hard-won peace means a life of joy together for Loki and Mobius. But life isn't always perfect, and Loki struggles to reconcile the keen awareness that nothing lasts forever.

Yield (Gen/Pre, 3.1k, Mobius whump, 9/10 whumpage)

Though exhausted after the timeslipping and loom extraction debacle, Loki isn't oblivious to the fact that something isn't right with Mobius...

Mobius might only ever have this one fleeting chance to see Loki again, and he’s convinced it’ll be worth it…

For more than a week, his partner has been in an inexplicable coma, and he's really not coping with it well... or at all.

The 'Lost' (Gen/Pre, 4.7k, Mobius whump, 5/10 whumpage)

Waking alone with no memory of himself beyond his name, Mobius happens upon a stranger called Loki, who takes him under his wing. Together they do their best to evade the menace that threatens them, but basic needs have to be met, and they can't hide forever...

Love Will Lead You Back (Pre-slash, 9.3k, Mobius whump, 7/10 whumpage)

Loki has been rescued from the Multiversal Tree, but something is very wrong. Mystifying everyone, he remains in a seemingly vegetative state, and no one and nothing can get through to him. Mobius of course takes on Loki-sitting responsibilities, and is willing to wait as long as it takes to get him back... no matter his own suffering.

Xanthe (Gen/Pre, 2k, Both whump, 2/10 whumpage)

After running straight into a trap, Loki and Mobius are left for dead on a spaceship that is stuck on a collision course. And if that wasn't bad enough, the ship's computer has a preposterous crush on Loki, which is beginning to wear godsdamned thin...

Bad Day (Established Lokius, 2.8k, Loki whump, 4/10 whumpage)

When Loki is randomly struck by severe anxiety in the middle of the night, he and Mobius end up sharing a tender moment that offers Loki some timely perspective.

When a mission winds up with Loki accidentally getting pruned, he encounters an old adversary in the Void, and their resulting conversation brings about an unexpected, but long overdue development.
