"I was a liar in every debate
I rule the forces that fueled your hate
When the cold in my heart leaves it comes to an end
And quietly I'll go to sleep"
The fear coursing through her body was almost unbearable; there were words being spoken, hums of machinery and growls of beasts yet Melinda could hear nothing but her own desperate heartbeats drumming in her chest and pulsating her ears- the last few heartbeats she'd ever be allowed to have, unless she found a way out of this mess.
A mess that started with her ambition; the overwhelming desire to depose the current evil dictator and become the ruler in his place had caused her to be captured by him, mercilessly interrogated for days. And when he finally broke her, got her to talk ... he sentenced her to execution by 'dooming'. Just like he had doomed countless others to be fed to a goozim over a pit of lava. Melinda's stomach twisted uncomfortably as she pondered which end would be less horrifying.
No, she commanded herself, you are not dying today. You can outsmart him and win. She glanced down at her aching body where blade wounds still shone bright red, courtesy of Emperor Doofenshmirtz's interrogation, and fought the urge to whimper; Melinda refused to appear weak again.
Heavy purple doors opened in front of her, a NormBot shoved her forward and, bound by large shackles on her waist, she had no choice but obey and enter the room. Her steps were hesitant and unsure, her hands were trembling with fear and even her worst nightmares didn't prepare her for the horror awaiting her inside the dooming pit: a giant furry monster with yellow eyes and teeth larger than herself, just waiting to be released from his cage and sicced on her. And underneath her the scorching lava gave the room a dizzying heat- no wonder only doomed people and robots ever entered. All color was drained from the girl's face and she felt a thick layer of cold sweat forming on her forehead.
A chilling, unmistakeable voice spoke high above her, making her nearly jump out of her skin. Melinda whipped her head around and immediately felt the need to shrink back and hide when she found herself staring at Emperor Doofenshmirtz (who was only watching her from behind a screen in a distant location, thank evilness). He stared back at her with that cruel smirk twisting his features and pure amusement in his one eye: she realized, with a pang of disgust, that he was going to enjoy every second of her murder. Just like he enjoyed every second of my interrogation. So she forced herself to hold his gaze, an expression of scorn stuck to her face that in no way let on how terrified she truly was.
Her eyes darted around the room as her brain fought against the heat and the pain and the gripping hold of the panic to formulate a plan. Doofenshmirtz gave the order to release the goozim and one NormBot moved forward and poked the beast with a 'stick' (that looked more like a goddamned spear if you asked Melinda) to anger it while another robot opened its cage. The goozim roared with such intensity that it sent Melinda reeling backwards and she had to shut her eyes to protect them from the incoming wind; she had mere seconds to live unless she found a way out, but locked in the dooming pit, shackled and flanked by countless NormBots, what could she do?!
Calm the beast, was the last desperate thought she had. Her fingers curled in a fist on the chain that attached to her shackles and she lunged herself towards the goozim in order to sooth it. She could've made it, she was going to make it if her leg hadn't given way underneath her, due to the enormous gash on her thigh left by the interrogation. "ACK!" She fell hard on the platform and winced; her previously broken body was screaming for relief from the pain and the heat from the lava was starting to affect her ability to think. She looked down and was faced with the bubbling lava that awaited if she fell of the platform. It seemed like an easier way out ... but no. She needed to fight.
In the split-second that it took her to try to get up the goozim pounced. Melinda screamed at the top of her lungs and protected her face with her arms. But from between the crooks of her elbows she saw it, right up there, in the distant screen ... Doofenshmirtz's gaze fixated on her, soaking up the show that was nothing but fun for him, and she was consumed by an overwhelming rage. The evil girl hated, d e s p i s e d the Emperor for the excruciating pain and trauma he'd put her through in the interrogation, no, the torture. And now this?! She was shaking with pure hatred, and it motivated her to keep going. It entranced her mind and left no more room for fear.
She rolled sideways, evading the pounce, and sprung to her feet. The adrenaline was doing a great job of masking her pain. Melinda bolted to the door, screaming defiantly, fully aware the room had a sound system transmitting to Doofenshmirtz. "You'll pay for this, Doofenshmirtz! YOU WILL PAY!"
Those were the last words Melinda ever spoke. Before she even made it to the (surely tightly locked) door the goozim sunk its sharp claws on her, piercing the flesh on her back. An inhuman shout of utter pain escaped her lips and she felt a warm gush of liquid - surely blood - running down her clothes and soaking the Dooferalls. And then, mercifully, the goozim bit her neck and its teeth went right through the jugular ... and all the pain and torment evaporated from her body at once as her heart stopped beating. She was dead before her body hit the floor.
Melinda had been executed and the last thing she felt was that ultimate hatred and the overwhelming need for r e v e n g e.
