Graveyard lit with candles during Alvablot / allhelgona 2021, Sweden
Alvablot
Hello friends!
Today it is the last Saturday in October and that means that us Norse Pagans celebrate Alvablot! I usually see a lot of people who seem to think that Alvablot and halloween are connected or are similar, but this isn’t the case.
Alvablot according to Asatro is to be celebrated with your family and closest of kin. It is a very private holiday due to the fact that it is dedicated to your own ancestors and dead family members. Use this time to remember your relatives who have passed away, and send a thought to all those who have died in this horrible pandemic we are currently living in.
Remember that we as humans are part of the cycle of nature and a part of life is to eventually die. It is unavoidable. As the leaves on the trees now fall to the ground and die so will we one day. But new life will come, for the trees in the spring in form of new leaves and for us through the miracle of childbirth. The circle of life goes on forever.
So today I leave you with this, be kind, be honest and be loyal to the Gods. Do not forget where you come from and who your ancestors were. Honor them today! Now I wish you all a good evening and a happy Alvablot!
The witching hour 🎃
Spent the witching hour outside in the full moon and wind with the cats. I also had a little #alvablot which is a household blot most likely done by the woman in the house. There are only a few accounts of the blot, probably because it was a private event where the rituals were performed inside the household with only family present.
Gearing up to celebrate Winter Nights tonight
Another enchanting song by Hindarfjäll - “Alvatid” or “Elf-time”.
The Álfablót or the Elven sacrifice is a pagan Scandinavian sacrifice to the elves towards the end of autumn, when the crops had been harvested and the animals were most fat. (x)
Music recommendation
Hello everyone, here comes a music recommendation from me!
I know I am a day late but yesterday it was Alvablot and this song called "Alvatid" by Hindarfjäll really gets you in the spirit of Alvablot. Also it's in Swedish (my native language) and I don't see a lot of viking themed songs in Swedish so it's special to me in that way as well. I hope you all will enjoy!

I'm going to be cleaning out my dad's house to get ready to sell it when I normally celebrate alvablot (full moon in October) and while I won't be doing any ritual or anything, it still feels oddly fitting. I associate death with the elves to a degree. My mother's and grandmother's graves are not too far from the house so I guess I'm going to plan on visiting while I'm there.
Part of my alvablot involves honoring the ancestors along with the harvest so I'll probably buy a candle to light and leave out a beer. My dad, mom, and grandma were not really drinkers so they can split 1.
Honestly I'm still reeling from my dad's death and I probably won't even feel like myself and want to do a ritual or celebration until yule anyway, so it kinda works out to be doing something.
AND that part of Pennsylvania in mid October looks particularly beautiful and autumny so I'll get a good show. I'll also pour out a thing of local milk on my elf tree when I get back.
