Hello Norse Pagans (or those knowledgeable about Norse mythology)! :D

Samhain/Halloween/All Hallow's Eve is coming up soon, and as a baby pagan, I'd like to know the Norse version, if there is any.

I'm very fluid in my practice as to whether it's Norse or Celtic, and I'm aware that it can be interchangeable, but it would still be nice to know.

So, what are the differences between Vetrnaetr, Alfablot, and Samhain/Halloween? Is there a Norse version of Halloween? What do you do on that/those day(s)? Any resources you can point me to (preferably not a video, if possible)?

How do you celebrate Álfablót? I've never really done much beyond a small blót for the holidays, but I'm thinking this Winternights I'd like to try to do something more!

most days i have pretty low energy so i don't do too much for the holidays. but this year im planning to do a little ritual that includes meditation and writing and then burning a letter to the people i love that have passed on.

i will get (or make) some treats (maybe chocolate or cookies or fruit and tea) and give that as an offering to my loved ones, Hel and the elves.

i will also probably do a tarot or rune reading in case any of them want to tell me something, and i will do something that day in honor of them. (for example i might give money to a homeless person for Hel, take some photos of my loved ones that are still here in honor of my grandpa, etc)

i'm not celebrating Álfablót at home this year, i'm visiting my girlfriend in a different country. so it's all going to be a bit different. but i hope to make it beautiful nonetheless :)

Pumpkin Mead Bread

Ingredients

1 cup pureed pumpkin (I actually puree my own because fresh tastes sooo much better)

1/3 cup melted butter (not that fake crap - get sticks, or even the imported ones)

1/3 cup white sugar

2/3 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup mead

1 egg, beaten

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp cinnamon

Pinch of nutmeg

1 1/2 cup flour

Pinch of salt

Mix the butter and pumpkin together in a large bowl. Add sugars, egg, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and mead; mix up. Finally add baking soda and flour.

Bake in a greased bread loaf pan at 350° F for 45 minutes to an hour. Just keep an eye on it until it's golden brown on top and probably split open. I always do the knife test and sometimes bump it up to 375° F if the stove is being difficult.

Please note: For anyone who is curious, I made this recipe mostly up using a "basic" pumpkin bread recipe, and no two times are different. Try different flavours of mead, or try adding nuts to it, or chocolate chips! I would suggest dark chocolate though, because it's sexy.

Uruz, Ansuz, Kenaz

With Uruz we're starting off with adversary or a trial. Things are hard right now and we may be going through some growing pains right now.

Ansuz will bring us beyond adversity through communication, wisdom, and sacrificing our preconceptions of the world and ourselves.

And the year will culminate in Kenaz, the torch, representing inspiration creativity, regeneration and hope.
