“Garnet?” The young girl’s voice rang with uncertainty, cheeks flushed with embarrassment even. They just got back from space yesterday, they rescued her dad, they escaped the zoo, she should be happy, Stevie thought. But then Connie left, and the gems were gone, and she was alone with the portrait of Rose Quartz looming over her. And then what happened kept her up last night. “Can I ask you about something... something I did?”

“When you guys were out getting pizza, something happened.” Stevie’s throat tensed, feeling a knot as if she swallowed a rock. But Garnet was the one she trusted most with this. Pearl would worry too much and Amethyst would just tell her not to worry.

From their porch, Pearl looked out over Beach City. So much had changed in the thousands of years since she’d come to this planet with Rose. She’d watch it grow from this vast land of greenery and a species of survivalists who lived here to be near a water source to this beautiful little town she’d come to love and call home. She hadn’t imagined Rose would ever take her up on her offer to come stay with her on this planet. Even now, it seemed so silly and childish, but she wouldn’t take it back. She just wondered how different things would be if Rose was still here, if somehow both her and Steven could coexist.

She propped her arms up on the railing and sighed. “Even after all this time, I find myself wondering what she would think about all this. It’s silly, isn’t it?”

“About the same as they were when you and the others left,” Bismuth answered. “I told y’all I’d keep watch and that nobody was gonna get past me. Well, I kept my promise.” She grinned. Though part of her had wished that she could partake in the battle, too, she understood why Rose had told her to stay behind this time. They couldn’t have all of their best fighters go to every single battle.

“Looks like you handled yourself pretty well out there,” she said. That was to be expected, she guessed. After all, Garnet was unlike any other Gem they had in their ranks. No Homeworld soldier would ever dare being fused for as long as Ruby and Sapphire had. It was something Bismuth admired about Garnet.

“So, c’mon. Gimme the details. How’d it go?”

Holly, I love you, you are my soulmate and my best friend. Many of you already know that my beloved girl, passed away 2 weeks ago. I’m so thankful for the hundreds of messages I’ve received filled with kind words. I didn’t get the chance to reply to every message individually, but I want everyone to know that it meant so much to me how so many of you showed appreciation and love for my sweet girl. There was some very challenging weeks, including her decrease in health before her passing and it was a very strenuous time for me, hence why I’ve stayed away from social media, emails and my text messages. I needed that time to go into my shell and heal. Holly’s passing created a huge hole that had been ripped into my world. For Holly to leave this earth in her physical presence & form, it has really taught me that we are all just passengers on the train we call “life”. We join the ride and enjoy our company with the ones who travels together with us, but everyone has their own final destination and the train will keep on driving, with them or without.
