11. Very late to a meeting
Bridget figured that Kyleigh waking up to her rushing around like her head was cut off would be something that would worry her. Kyleigh was protective in the best of times, so Bridget freaking out, she knew, didn’t settle well with her brunette wife. Slowing only long enough to press a kiss to her wife’s lips, she moved on, bustling to get her hair finished–all straight, except a small flip at the ends–and finish buttoning her blouse. She had a meeting with the library board about more funding for the children’s section. They had cut it back to half a floor when it used to be the whole second floor, and Bridget didn’t agree. Even if she didn’t have her kids, she knew that books were the best thing a child could ever have.
“I’m sorry, babe, I forgot about the meeting. I really need to get moving, otherwise we won’t get the funding.” The fifth floor of the library was half remodeled, and the books they had moved to take up the other half of the children’s floor could go up there. That was Bridget’s idea, and if they could get the funding to finish up the rest of the remodeling, Bridget would be willing to move things around herself.
“Once the meeting’s over I’ll be home for family day” Her shoes were on next, finally hair finished, and her blouse buttoned and tucked into her skirt. Purse over her arm, coat buttoned up, wedding ring on tight. She stopped once more to send her wife an apologetic smile and get another kiss from her. “I’m sorry I ruined family day, I just can’t miss this meeting. I’ll make it up to you, all three of you, I promise.”
