Tropes: role reversal, kid fic and/or parent fic, forced togetherness (snowed into a cabin, imprisoned, stranded, etc.)?
yo i LOVE role reversal, like so much. i prefer when it’s intentional role reversal, like Merlin going undercover as a Prince or Lord or Knight with Arthur posing as his servant for security reasons. that is my JAM. completely AU reversals are a little more iffy but they’re still fun.
Merthur is A++++ for this one and there should be like 230487 more fics like that yo
i’m hesitant to write this one if only cuz i don’t have much experience with kids. writing convincing children is really fucking hard just in general, even for people who do have experience with them, cuz kids minds just don’t work like ours do and trying to fathom their thought processes and write them well is tricky as shit. i did write a kid fic cuz i got prompted for one and it was fun but also kind of nerve wracking lol so idk if i’ll be writing anything like it again unless i really get struck by inspiration
the one i wrote was Stackson (and i have a Merthur one with a baby but babies aren’t really characters lol they don’t count), but i do really love the idea of Derek as a single dad. and Sterek lends itself well to parent/babysitter or parent/kid’s-teacher.
DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!!!! i fucking LOVE this, it’s one of my faves, and i honestly can’t believe i haven’t written it already. the fantastic thing about people being stuck together is that there’s no way for them to disengage and that means the tension just gets higher and higher until someone snaps, and that’s when the real emotional moments come into play. confessions get made or someone lashes out in anger/defensiveness or sexual tension comes to fruition. depending on how long they’re there, they’ll give in and talk to each other because there’s literally nothing/no one else and isolation will drive you crazy. it forces them to confront their issues instead of run from them, it leaves them no choice but to bond in one way or another. it’s really brilliant and i love it so much.
literally anyone, lol, but the first one that comes to mind for this is Stackson because they’re so different (at the start of canon) that it would be really hard for them to come together naturally. so forcing proximity would give them both no other option but to overcome their own shitty antagonistic attitudes and see each other’s true colors.
