Good day Dr. Scherz! Do you like art? If so, what are some of your favorite artists? What about music?

Yes, I like some art. I confess, I don't have a sophisticated taste. I am quite fond of pointillism, realism, and surrealism, and have a passing knowledge of impressionism, but they are not really what I fill my spaces with. I am a big fan of scientific illustrators, especially Gabriel Ugueto, but also old copper plate scientific illustrations and maps. I have a deep appreciation for oil painting, and perhaps my favourite current artist is Samuel Popovich, which I think will surprise precisely no-one. Oh yeah, and I have to shout out Bolde Studios here for their incredible frog sculptures.

Music-wise, I have broad taste. Right now I am listening to a lot of Apocalyptica and similar again after a long time not listening to very much metal. For me the most important thing is that the music doesn't repeat too much. The main playlist I listen to on Spotify contains 1743 songs right now; it is composited from a lot of playlists I liked that were too short, plus some systematic additions of my own. I guess you can get some idea of my taste from there, but it also doesn't have e.g. the swing and electroswing music I listen to a lot (I dance Lindy Hop), because when listening to those genres I don't like to bounce between styles.

If you were gonna make a video game what would it look like?

in an ideal world, a semi open-world rpg based on my Lest universe; high fantasy setting, impossible odds with heavy focus on character connection between the player and the npcs. the little moments in between that often get looked over but are usually part of our favorite and worst memories. silly, silly villains! quests that fuck you up beyond measure, drama, intrigue, ridiculous snapshots in the most serious of situations, about a million banter lines of people bickering snarkily. hidden lore if you care to sniff it out, small little things and interactions that aren't important but give you a little laugh. hope and kindness and love in all its forms. a weird blonde guy that has the worst one-liners. stylized, non-hyper realistic graphics because if i see a single eye lash, i nuke the game

Reptiles regrow ovaries? Massive reptile fan, just love them, but I haven’t been on top of the science for several years.

It's a known problem with spaying lizards in particular, and the reason that preventative spays are falling out of favor. Theoretically, if you leave even a little bit of microscopic ovarian/follicular material behind you could have regrowth. Although I've also seen some vets go through multiple spays and swear up and down there was absolutely nothing left, and yet they spayed the same animal at least 3 times.

I would expect it would be an issue with other reptile species too, but we just don't do spay surgeries on them as much as lizards. Or at least I don't. But I think that's more of a reflection on what's common/popular as a pet. Bearded dragons are overwhelmingly the most common reptile we see, and I'd say leopard geckos are in second place. Every time I do a spay I inform the owner that regrowth can occur, because the last thing you want is to explain to an owner why the animal you spayed (and not for cheap either, it's a pretty technically challenging surgery) has started laying eggs again.

Does the church recognize Mormonism? I would guess not but have no actual knowledge

Recognize as in acknowledging it is a religion? Yes. Recognize as in validity in “sacraments”? No, except in the case of a married Mormon couple converting to Catholicism. Marriage is a sacrament in the Catholic Church. We do not recognize their communion practices as valid or baptisms.

Favorite weapon to see people work with?

If you would have asked be this two or three years ago, I would have said the three section staff. I’ll always love a three section staff fight.

But over the years, I’ve become very fond of the spear. I don’t even know why as it can look pretty clunky sometimes. But when wielded well, a good spear fight will give me a boner. Especially a sword versus spear fight like the one in Drunken Master II or Odd Couple.

I also love fan fights. It’s a silly weapon because it’s not like you can actually hurt someone with a fan but I love how it looks on screen.

So at one point Ahriman comes face to face with a Magnus in the shape of an Old Earth king, and it mentions how strange the face seems, dozens of thousands of years and countless physical trials of evolution either. Like he recognizes the man as obviously human but it’s odd. So what do you think humans look like in 40k?

I’d say they have the same features and shapes but more exggerated. So longer faces are longer, noses are more accentuated, broad jaws are broader, etc, etc. And then Astartes take that to an even greater level due to their thicc bones.
