a tiny gripe about the fandom is how most ppl misunderstand what happens if a monster is injected with determination

it is almost widespread that if a monster gets injected, they get this boost and then turn goopy afterwards

where there are only two instances where determination turns the monsters goopy: the amalgamates and undyne in geno route--in which the they are either dead or dying

remember that monsters turn into dust, right?

determination is the force/substance that at least tries to keep it together

to monsters, the inevitability of death and determination are kept in a constant cycle, which leads to this goopy substance the amalgamates have

technically alive, even if they were sent in as dust from their families

techically "together", but its still falling apart like dust

the reason why undyne transforms is that, as she was dying, she gets determination, and that goopy substance is malleable enough for that transformation

and the reason why she became goopy is because her determination is still strong enough until shes not strong anymore to fight against her literally dying, or that she finally accepts her fate

now then, what happens if a perfectly healthy monster gets injected with it? probably nothing.

we saw (or heard) sans dying, right? and the exp we get from him is basically equal to the karma we inflicted on every monster in the underground. so im guessing hes pretty determined

and did we see sans transforming? no. he died like the other monsters

if he had a mindset like undyne, then maybe

if a monster were to be injected while alive, a hypothesis is that they would go on as normal, but when they die, they turn into this goopy creature like the amalgamates, and stay like that because artificial (or human) determination doesnt dissipate like natural (or monster) determination like undyne's

now come to think of it, if monsters made of dust are immalleable when alive, it reminds me of chalk...
