(surgeon jekyll hc rambles)
come to think of it, can chemistry stand on its own?
like, chemistry compliments anatomy or medical science in general
if we were to look at it in a mechanical/industrial sense, chemistry is used to make more efficient materials. if invented from scratch, and not immediately applied in practice, it just contributes to research on understanding matter, and then used or built upon in the future
im posting about this is bc, what if jekyll actually had lived his life as a chemist? what career would he pursue? bc chemistry isnt inherently medical, but then again, if not medical nor industrial, he would be most likely a researcher
but then again. jekyll *did* say that he preferred chemistry more than anatomy, not that he absolutely detests studying anatomy
the point is, im trying to see the practical reason why jekyll's father, or the people around him wouldnt support his career path as a chemist, because to me, chemistry seems like it only serves as a component for interdisciplinary sciences
