A prompt on what happened after the bathtub scene…. does Sophie spend the night with Benedict in his room or does she sneak back to her own room so that they don't get caught? If she sneaks back to her room then does Benedict help by distracting footman John?

He lifts her out of the tub and dries her off, before settling her in the bed and doing the same for himself. He pulls her chemise from the floor and slips it over her head before pulling his pants back on and curling up next to her.

"I should go back to my room," she whispers to him.

"Please stay," Benedict whispers back.

Sophie sits up, leaning over to kiss him softly, cupping his face. "I should not."

He keeps his eyes closed, his lips pouted, obviously hoping for another kiss.

"Benedict," she giggles softly.

He wraps his arms around her, pulling her in against him, nuzzling in and kissing her shoulder and neck. "I almost lost you."

Sophie freezes for a moment before wrapping her arms around him, stroking the back of his neck.

"First to a new employer in the Americas," he mutters. "And then to Araminta's schemes."

She shifts and kisses him again, keeping it gently as her hands roam over him soothingly. "I am here."

Benedict gazes at her softly, his eyes tired. Clearly the last few days are slowly starting to catch up to him.

"I shall stay until you fall asleep," Sophie promises.

"I do not wish to-"

"Benedict, did you sleep at all last night?" she asks.

He swallows and shakes his head.

"Please," Sophie whisper. "Please sleep. You need it."

"So do you," Benedict presses.

She sighs softly and shifts to lay down next to him. "Clearly, we both need rest. Especially if we must face whatever is to come tomorrow."

He nods slowly, his eyes starting to droop against his will.

Sophie reaches out, stroking his hair, watching him drift off.

"My Benedict," she whispers softly, watching as his body seems to relax into sleep as her words.

She stays for another two hours, drifting off for a little while, before she slips out into the empty hallway and back to her room.
