In my little corner of fandom, there are two major events to celebrate - the completion of Amanuensis, a work a full two years in the making, and the upcoming birthday of (I'm firmly convinced) the best collaborator and co-conspirator ever, @madronash. The latter especially is something to make a fuss over, because few people bring so much joy to my life!

I had grand plans of fanbinding Amanuensis as a birthday gift, but it was more important to finish that story well than to do it on a timeline, so that present will have to be for some other day. Meanwhile, I'd already asked my sister if she could make some proper period-adjacent cover art for the story.

So happiest of birthdays, Ash, and everyone else, I hope you enjoy this cheeky cover for a story I'm very fond of!

I know the B&W community spreads across a lot of the world but @anandabrat and I both live in a country where there are very few things worth cheering about right now. That's not unique to the US of course and neither is the fact that all of the very real things that are good in the world have to do with people coming together to make joy with and protect each other and extend that circle of protection to include as many others as possible.

That sometimes involves great discomfort and great leaps of faith. Believing in a better future is hard. Fanfiction may not save the world but it, and especially the creative friendships it sustains, will help me survive in it and take those leaps of faith and I hope it does that for you too.

I like to think those of us who write, and imagine, over and over again, scenarios in which one Myka Bering and one Helena Wells wrest a happy ending from narrative doom understand what a revolutionary act a dogged insistence on hope can be.

Anyway this chapter is the penultimate one, and Helena is taking a very big leap here. She's going to need some moral support to get through the last hurdle so stay tuned to see how it turns out for her...

Amanuensis replied to me on a rec comment today!!!!!!!!! <3 Amanuensis was totally responsible for giving me a dirty/hot/bad/wrong fic addiction because of how brilliant and good their fics are.

He cannot replace Remy. And what he did for Harry and me does not repay the deaths.

But he was willing to give all he had, to try.

It created a truce.

Even if he is in love with me, I do not know if more can be created.

But we are too few for me to try to keep up walls. Even emotional ones.

Especially emotional ones.

I was trying to work out how to play "You Belong to Me" (chords picked on the ukulele with vocals over the top) but it was too tricky, trying to remember the tune and lyrics both while playing a new piece... So I had a go at singing the lyrics of a song I did already know—"Make You Feel My Love"—to the tune and chords of "You Belong to Me" and... Something Happened? And I think I like it? So... Enjoy!
