Vintage Italian Liqueur Poster, Amaretto Di Saronno Enzo Forlivesi Montanari Detto Araca 1947 55
Vintage Italian Liqueur Poster, Amaretto di Saronno, Enzo Forlivesi Montanari, known as "Araca", 1947-55 This characterful advertising poster, produced between 1947 and 1955, was created by Enzo Forlivesi Montanari — working under the pseudonym "Araca" for Amaretto di Saronno, one of Italy's most famous and best loved liqueurs. The story of amaretto is closely tied to the town of Saronno in Lombardy, where the almond-flavoured liqueur has been produced since at least the 19th century, becoming over time one of Italy's great culinary exports — instantly recognisable around the world. The postwar period saw Saronno's amaretto producers expand their advertising considerably, as the brand became a symbol of Italian sophistication during the country's remarkable economic recovery. Enzo Forlivesi Montanari, working as "Araca", was part of the wave of Italian commercial artists whose work in the late 1940s and early 1950s helped define the warm, optimistic visual language of postwar Italian advertising — a perfect match for a product as indulgent and celebratory as amaretto. Vintage Italian Liqueur Bar Poster, Walter Del Frate 1960
Vintage Italian Liqueur Bar Poster by Walter Del Frate, 1960 This 1960 advertising poster was created by Walter Del Frate for Amaretto ILVA, one of the producers of the famous almond liqueur from Saronno — a small Lombard town that has given its name to one of Italy's most beloved liqueurs worldwide. Saronno's connection to amaretto stretches back centuries, with local legend tracing it to the Renaissance, and by the mid-20th century the town's amaretto producers had become globally recognised ambassadors for Italian liqueur. The 1960s were a vibrant period for Italian advertising, as the country's post war consumer boom brought a new confidence and visual energy to commercial art — bright colours, dynamic compositions and a sense of modern sophistication. Walter Del Frate worked within this lively mid-century Italian advertising tradition, creating imagery for Amaretto ILVA that conveyed both the warmth and indulgence of the liqueur and the stylish, cosmopolitan image that Italian brands were keen to project to the wider world during this golden period of "Made in Italy."
