Clark: Cameo is a sex-linked color, as is purple. That means that while it can be carried as a recessive gene by either gender, it's only activated by a male carrier. So Junior, who I believe is the carrier, bred Missy at least twice, resulting in 2 cameo hen chicks. She also hatched 2 india blue males which could have been produced by Junior or not. An india blue split cameo male, as it's referred to, bred to an india blue hen produces 50% india blue cocks split to cameo (carriers), 50% india blue cocks, 50% cameo hens, and 50% india blue hens. Same thing for purple, but insert purple everywhere it says cameo. Only cameo bred to cameo produces cameo males. Genetics are complicated.

I think cameo is ugly so I was not thrilled by this development, but they aren't super common so I'll hang onto the cameo hen and maybe let her breed once I see if there's a market. Cameos are tan/brown. The males are tan and beige with brown eye feathers. Google has some decent photos.

Now, similarly, since I don't have a purple male, mine won't produce any purple offspring <sadface>, but we'll see if it affects the shade of blue in offspring.

All okay here. Mesa is a mostly a huge sprawling suburb of tract homes. I’m sure we’re far from anything going on. (But I’m going to check the news now just to see what’s up.)

What exactly are house parents? Is that like head of house at Hogwarts?

They are the people who deal with all the "parenting" type issues that come up. They spend the night in the building and take the kids to doctors, etc.

I wish they would just let her call as much as she needs to for now. She wants to share her day with you and if not doing this makes her sad, then that's not a lesson to teach her. My opinion.

They want her to call less because she's not really connecting to her peers. She is using her free time to call us instead. I get the impulse and don't disagree. Aaron and I were starting to worry that her calls were getting in the way of making friends. It is a bit of an issue for her. She just doesn't really think to 'hang out'. She enjoys the other kids, but doesn't seem to have a super social impulse. Because they are building community, they want to nurture that in her. I think the main problem is how Sylvia reacts to 'rules.' She doesn't want to feel like she's breaking the rule, but she lets it get her all worked up. Hopefully, they can talk to her and clarify things for her.

maybe check ins? a quick ten minute, time locked call every day, and a long call on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays? i struggled with homesickness at away camps when i was her age.

I think that's what we need. She can call every day, but we should keep it to 15/30 minutes.
