How can you tell when she will kid?

Goats have ligaments that run on either side of their spine where it connects to the tail. When a doe is close to kidding, the ligaments start to loosen. Initially, they feel like thin bones starting at the base of the spine and running at roughly a 45 degree outward angle on either side toward the tail. The closer she gets to kidding, they start to feel like thin rubber hoses, eventually disappear altogether, and the tail appears sunken. Once they're gone, you'll normally have kids within 12 hours. Also her udder starts to fill up, but some fill up a day before, some an hour before. Ligaments are a better indicator. Adie's are loose and almost gone and she's starting to bag up some. Amy's are still pretty tight, but she's starting to bag up as well.

What exactly are house parents? Is that like head of house at Hogwarts?

They are the people who deal with all the "parenting" type issues that come up. They spend the night in the building and take the kids to doctors, etc.

I wish they would just let her call as much as she needs to for now. She wants to share her day with you and if not doing this makes her sad, then that's not a lesson to teach her. My opinion.

They want her to call less because she's not really connecting to her peers. She is using her free time to call us instead. I get the impulse and don't disagree. Aaron and I were starting to worry that her calls were getting in the way of making friends. It is a bit of an issue for her. She just doesn't really think to 'hang out'. She enjoys the other kids, but doesn't seem to have a super social impulse. Because they are building community, they want to nurture that in her. I think the main problem is how Sylvia reacts to 'rules.' She doesn't want to feel like she's breaking the rule, but she lets it get her all worked up. Hopefully, they can talk to her and clarify things for her.

maybe check ins? a quick ten minute, time locked call every day, and a long call on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays? i struggled with homesickness at away camps when i was her age.

I think that's what we need. She can call every day, but we should keep it to 15/30 minutes.
